Position Overview

GAT Airline Ground Support at MSY is seeking experienced, safety-driven leaders to join our aviation operations team as a Ramp Supervisor. This role is ideal for individuals with prior ramp or airline experience who are ready to take the next step into leadership while continuing to grow their aviation career.

As a Ramp Supervisor, you will lead and coordinate ground, line, and cabin service teams while ensuring safe, efficient, and on-time aircraft operations. You will be accountable for operational performance, safety compliance, team leadership, and service delivery in alignment with airline contracts and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, direct, and coordinate ramp, line, and cabin service personnel

  • Establish and manage shift assignments for full-time and part-time employees

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of all ground support equipment (GSE)

  • Identify and report mechanical or functional discrepancies in equipment

  • Coordinate with airline partners to meet baggage, cargo, and service requirements while maintaining on-time performance

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition

  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers across departments

  • Determine manpower needs and ensure staffing aligns with operational demands

  • Enforce company policies and ensure disciplinary procedures are applied fairly and consistently

  • Conduct crew briefings prior to flights, outlining assignments and operational expectations

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, airport authority, and airline regulations

  • Read and interpret aircraft weight and balance instructions, loading manifests, hazardous materials labels, and baggage routing tags

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Previous ramp, airline, or ground handling experience required

  • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience

  • Strong operational planning and resource allocation skills

  • Working knowledge of GSE and maintenance considerations

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to navigate electronic systems and devices (timekeeping, printers, etc.)

  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently

  • Ability to process information quickly and make sound decisions under pressure

  • Must successfully complete all required training and maintain certifications

  • Must pass an FBI fingerprint background check and drug screening

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, push, and pull for extended periods

  • Capable of repetitively lifting up to 70 pounds, including in confined spaces

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Able to work in environments with high noise levels

Work Schedule

  • Must be flexible to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays

  • Must be available to work extended hours on short notice during irregular operations
