Advance Civil Infrastructure as a Senior Civil Project Engineer - Aviation — Help Shape the Future of Airports

Are you a senior-level civil engineer ready to lead complex infrastructure projects from concept through construction? Do you enjoy solving challenging engineering problems, mentoring technical teams, and delivering projects that make a lasting impact on communities?

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil Project Engineer - Aviation to join our Aviation Team in Indianapolis, IN. In this role, you'll lead the planning, design, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects supporting airports of all sizes, including airfields, terminals, roadways, parking facilities, utilities, and site development.

 

Previous aviation experience is preferred but not required. We welcome experienced civil engineers with backgrounds in site development, land development, transportation, municipal infrastructure, or other horizontal infrastructure projects who are interested in applying their expertise to aviation projects.


  • Lead the technical execution of complex civil engineering projects from planning and design through construction, preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents
  • Design and oversee civil infrastructure projects including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, roadways, pavements, and site development for aviation facilities, including airports, terminals, airfields, and support facilities
  • Serve as a technical leader by developing innovative engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and client standards. Experience with FAA standards is preferred but not required
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with planners, architects, engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within budget
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and project leadership
  • Support business development by preparing technical proposals, participating in client presentations, and cultivating strong client relationships
  • Perform periodic field observations during construction to document project progress, verify work generally conforms to design plans and specifications, review erosion and sediment control measures, and communicate observations to the project team
  • Support construction administration by reviewing contractor progress, preparing field reports, documenting site conditions, attending progress meetings, tracking installed quantities, and assisting with resolving construction-related technical questions

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive civil engineering experience in civil site design, land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation, aviation, or other horizontal infrastructure projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Strong experience designing site grading, drainage, stormwater systems, utilities, roadways, pavements, and other civil infrastructure
  • Experience using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or comparable civil engineering design software
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, managing technical project delivery, and mentoring junior engineers
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC procedures, engineering standards, construction administration, and project delivery
  • Excellent verbal, written, and client relationship skills
  • Willingness to periodically travel to project sites to support construction observations and field activities
  • Participation in professional engineering organizations is a plus

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
