Job description

The Reno Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is looking for a full-time, experienced person to join our team as an Airport Operations Specialist Supervisor. In this role you would supervise a terrific team of Airport Operations Specialists, providing leadership, support, coaching/mentoring, and direction in the performance of their daily duties. Airport Operations Specialists serve as the eyes and ears of the airport, perform daily operations and security tasks, perform unarmed patrols, manage access control, respond to incidents, support travelers, and ensure federal, state, and local regulations are upheld.

In addition to supervisory duties, you would need to exercise full discretion and autonomy over airport security services and operations during both non-emergency and emergency situations in the absence of other leadership. You would also be responsible to review the RTAA's Airport Security Program to ensure compliance with standards and specifications mandated under Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 1540, 1542 and 1544 as they pertain to the safety and security of a commercial service airport.

To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to communicate accurately and effectively; the ability to establish, maintain, and foster effective working relationships; the ability to assess and prioritize emergency situations and respond appropriately to the changing situation and needs; and the ability to exercise sound judgement. You must also be adept at interpreting and applying complex policy directives and handle internal and external customer interactions with tact and finesse. And finally, you must be committed to the concept of a TEAM oriented environment.

Duties include:

Supervise and direct staff responsible for the activities/operations of RTAA's terminal and security services. This includes ensuring compliance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and RNO Rules & Regulations.

Stay abreast of evolving security trends, technologies, and regulations, providing recommendations for system and procedural enhancements.

Oversees the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of security staff including security guards and desk clerks.

Supervising the inspections and screening of goods, people, and premises.

Ensure confidentiality of information regarding reports, investigations, and suspicious activities of team members and guests.

Control of airfield gate access.

Patrols of public and restricted areas of the Airport.

Identifying and resolving security and terminal operational issues and initiating resolutions, aircraft gate assignment requests and providing other assistance as able to travelers and airport tenants.

Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and relevant stakeholders during security emergencies.

Adheres to and upholds all RTAA values, rules, policies, and procedures.

Subject to be recalled back to work as requested for emergency situations.

Entry Salary:

$83,230 - $101,578 annually, with opportunity for additional merit-based increases up to a range maximum of $119,823 annually. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This is a management at-will position, which is salaried and is exempt from overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in aviation management, public administration, business administration, criminal justice, justice management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible management experience in a security or operations related field (preferably within an aviation environment), which includes at least two (2) years of lead and/or supervisory experience.

Required Licensing and/or Certifications:

Certification as an Airport Security Coordinator is required within one (1) year of appointment.

Must possess a valid Nevada's Driver's license upon hire.
