Dept/Div: Airport/N/A ---FLSA Status: Exempt

General Definition of Work

Performs complex work assisting in the administration, operation, maintenance, and development of the airport, overseeing airport facilities and infrastructure, maintaining a safe and efficient airport, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the broad supervision of the Airport Manager. Supervision is exercised over Line Service Technicians and Administrative Staff.


Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions

Assists with the management of airport capital improvement projects including grant administration, consultant coordination, construction oversight, and compliance with FAA and GDOT requirements

Coordinate daily airport operations, airfield inspections, maintenance activities, safety programs, and regulatory compliance

Assists in budget preparation, purchasing, and financial reporting

Supervise airport personnel; assign work, develop schedules, review performances, approve leave and provide training

Supports Airport Manager in coordination with FAA, GDOT, elected officials, consultants, contractors, tenants and aviation stakeholders regarding airport development initiatives

Administers airport leases, tenant relations, hangar management, and property utilization

Prepares agendas, reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for Airport Authority meetings and public meetings

Responds to emergencies, customer service requests, public inquiries, and special projects assigned

Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of airport operations principles, organization, and department policies, practices and procedures with ability to learn FAA regulations; general knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances and laws; general knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and regulations, GDOT Guidance, airport planning, budgeting and airport management practices, grant assurances, and county policies; general knowledge of grant applications, budget reports, lease documents, inspection reports, and fuel reports; general knowledge of airport planning, contract management, aviation safety, and regulatory compliance; comprehensive knowledge of standard office equipment and software; general knowledge of airfield maintenance equipment, radios, and fuel systems; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.


Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree with coursework in airport management, aviation management, public administration, or related field and considerable experience in airport operations, aviation customer service, public administration, or related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered


Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).


Special Requirements

Must be able to obtain AAAE Certified Member status and Fuel Quality Control training within 24 months of hire

Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records

Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR)
