Overview
Avelo Airlines is seeking a skilled Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician based in New Haven, CT, to maintain, repair, and ensure the operational readiness of our GSE fleet. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GSE maintenance, diesel and gas engine repair, electrical and hydraulic systems, and fleet management.
Key Responsibilities
GSE Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on Avelo's GSE, including aircraft tugs, belt loaders, de-icing trucks, belt loaders, and other types of GSE.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues to ensure all equipment remains operational.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts inventory.
- Ensure GSE is inspected, commissioned, and put into service at new locations, following safety and operational standards.
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Monitor and track GSE condition, repair needs, and usage across multiple locations.
- Coordinate GSE relocation and shipping between stations to support operational demands.
- Assist with implementing and maintaining a GSE management technology solution for tracking maintenance records and asset performance.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with FAA, OSHA, and airport authority regulations.
- Follow all safety procedures, wearing proper PPE and ensuring a safe working environment.
- Participate in safety audits and inspections of equipment and maintenance facilities.
Vendor & Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with third-party vendors for outsourced maintenance and repair services, ensuring compliance with Avelo's standards.
- Work closely with airport operations teams to ensure GSE availability and readiness.
- Communicate effectively with the GSE Supervisor and fellow technicians to address urgent repairs and maintenance priorities.
Travel & Station Support
- Provide on-site GSE maintenance at Bradley International Airport and surrounding locations weekly.
- Travel up to 50% to assist with GSE maintenance at other Avelo stations as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in automotive, diesel, or GSE maintenance preferred.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in GSE maintenance, diesel engine repair, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of ground support equipment.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport SIDA badge.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds, bend, squat, stand, and work in confined spaces.
- Must pass all pre-employment background checks and drug screening.
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.

- Successful coordination of GSE movement and shipping to meet operational needs.
- Strong compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
