As a Financial Strategy Analyst at American Airlines, youโ€™ll join a high-impact team helping shape the next chapter of the airlineโ€™s future. As an analyst, you will work on assignments that advance the companyโ€™s strategic objectives and your professional development. Analysts are expected to rotate between teams to gain exposure to various parts of the organization, positioning you to join our next generation of leaders.

Overview:

Financial Strategy Analysts will join one of our high performing teams within the Corporate Development and Finance organizations. Responsibilities range from in-depth cause and effect analyses, competitive analyses, supporting company initiatives through analytical modeling and consulting, and monthly review of financial performance. Analysts develop financial models that support critical decisions and will communicate recommendations, key findings, and issues to senior management.

Independently structure complex analyses and solve critical problems

Synthesize clear takeaways and recommendations for senior leadership

Support recommendations and decisions using financial analysis and modeling

Communicate in an effective manner with team members, stakeholders, and senior leaders

Our analysts develop skills extending beyond the boundaries of financial analysis:

Strategy: Assess investments into the airline and adjacent businesses, evaluate business profitability, lead financial analysis for strategic projects, and provides centralized financial planning for the airline

Teamwork: Collaborate with various teams across the airline on projects ranging from fleet strategy to developing business plans for major capital investments

Leadership Exposure: Interface with senior leaders across the organization to present findings and recommendations on a regular basis

Basic Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership

Strong analytical skills and critical thinking capability

Ability to structure analysis and develop creative solutions

Exercise leadership through taking initiative and motivating others within a dynamic team environment

2-3 years full-time work experience in finance, management consulting, or other related fields

  • Business Transformation: Drive high-impact initiatives that improve performance and efficiency across the organization. As part of this team, youโ€™ll work on projects tied to Americanโ€™s most critical strategic prioritiesโ€”including cost savings, operational excellence, and digital transformation. You'll partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, develop business cases, and ensure execution of key initiatives
  • Capital Planning: Lead the prioritization of capital investment projects across the entire company. You'll assess proposals, recommend funding, and track the success of investments
  • Corporate Development: Function as an internal consultant, spearheading complex strategic initiatives. Generate value through analyses, financial valuations, and due diligence efforts related to strategic investments
  • Financial Analysis: Develop industry-leading benchmarking materials and insights to guide strategic decision-making. Identify opportunities to create long-term value for American Airlines
  • Financial Planning: Partner with commercial and operational teams to develop the company's financial roadmap, analyze investment opportunities, and ensure we meet financial targets. You'll create analyses to support efficiency initiatives and capital deployment strategies and present the airline's financial results to key stakeholders like the CFO, Board of Directors, and senior executives
  • Fleet Planning: Help us optimize our aircraft fleet. You'll evaluate investments in acquisitions, life extensions, cabin interiors, and aircraft systems, ensuring we have the right planes for the future. Develop presentations to pitch investment decisions to key stakeholders
  • Flight Profitability: Analyze and present monthly flight profitability results. Collaborate with Network and Commercial Planning to optimize routes, network structure, and aircraft deployment for maximum profitability
  • Labor Analysis: Provide strategic insights and economic analysis to support negotiations with our unionized workforce. Work closely with senior leaders in Finance and Labor Relations
  • Regional Planning & Strategy: Collaborate across departments and partner airlines to drive strategic, financial, and operational improvements impacting nearly half of the airlineโ€™s daily departures. This role offers a dynamic blend of schedule optimization, workforce planning, and performance analysis, making a direct impact on crew productivity and operational reliability
  • Treasury: Support the companyโ€™s capital and financing needs that fund dayโ€‘toโ€‘day operations and longโ€‘term growth. Guide activities ranging from aircraft financing to capital markets transactions, while helping advance deleveraging and balance sheet transformation
