Position Overview:
The Machine Shop Industrial Support & Al integration Engineer will provide technical support for a three-shift machine shop and lead the development and implementation of Al enabled manufacturing capabilities.
Location: On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia
Your Day to Day as a Machine Shop Industrial Support & AI Integration Engineer:
  • This role is responsible for defining data requirements, selecting sensors and connectivity solutions, establishing data architecture and governance, and deploying practical Al tools to enhance safety, quality, and throughput.

  • The engineer will support both legacy manual and modern CNC equipment, apply advanced analytical methods using tools such as Excel and Minitab, and ensure compliance with nuclear-regulated processes.

  • The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, technical competence, and the ability to collaborate effectively across Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Leadership.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, industrial, electrical, computer, or related).
  • Must possess strong analytical skills; ability to analyze and interpret manufacturing data using tools such as Excel (advanced functions, Power Query), Minitab, or similar statistical software.
  • Must possess ability to apply statistical methods (SPC, capability studies, regressions, DOEs, etc.) to identify trends, variation, and root causes.
  • Must possess the ability to turn raw machine and process data into clear insights, visualizations, and recommendations - utilizing skills to build reports, dashboards, and presentations that communicate findings to multiple audiences.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Lean/Six sigma experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with industrial data stacks.

  • Background in Al manufacturing preferred (predictive maintenance, SPC/anomaly detection, computer vision, scheduling optimization, etc.)

Pay: $65,000 - $103,000
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $103,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
