Job description

Overview

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to support Government aircraft programs by providing technical expertise in the design, development, integration, and analysis of military aircraft mechanical systems, including hydraulic/pneumatic systems, flight controls, mass properties, and structural systems. This role participates across the full lifecycle from trade studies and design reviews through certification support, testing, and sustainment while contributing to airworthiness processes and integrity programs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to solve complex engineering problems involving aircraft hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical systems, flight controls, mass properties, and structures.
  • Perform across all phases of hardware design, development, integration/implementation, and analysis.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and tradeoff analyses for design improvements and advanced technology insertion.
  • Support airworthiness activities including development or tailoring of certification criteria (e.g., TACC/MACC) and participation in configuration governance.
  • Support investigations, quality evaluations, deficiency reports, and field/depot assistance requests.
  • Participate in program events and reviews including TIMs, PDRs, CDRs, PCAs, FCAs, FATs, and CCB/AW activities.
  • Develop structural and corrosion repairs; contribute to corrosion prevention and control efforts.
  • Analyze program progress, identify issues, recommend solutions, and evaluate results.
  • Support acquisition and sustainment processes and integrity programs including OSS&E, MECSIP, AVIP, ASIP, and Corrosion Prevention & Control.
  • Support test planning/execution and review of associated documentation. Coordinate with IPTs (radar, communications, logistics, integration/test) to ensure aircraft subsystems meet requirements.
  • Assist with DMSMS management activities as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizenClearance: Active SecretEducation: Bachelor's degreein Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.

Years of Experience:

  • 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline, 5 years of which must be in the DoD or other USG ISR/SOF organizations
  • 2+ years experience in design/development/integration of aircraft hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical systems.
  • 2+ years experience overseeing engineering projects (project leadership, task lead, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting airworthiness and at least some of: loads, stress, weight & balance / mass properties in support of systems integration.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional Experience:

  • Experience with military aircraft modification programs and certification/clearance processes.
  • Familiarity with integrity programs (ASIP/MECSIP/AVIP) and corrosion prevention/control.
  • Experience supporting design reviews and audits (PDR/CDR/PCA/FCA) and first article testing.
  • CAD and analysis tools exposure (list your programโ€™s actual tools if known).
  • Background in sustainment, depot/field support, and deficiency reporting.
