They work closely with geologists and engineers to interpret data for resource exploration, infrastructure planning, and scientific research. The job requires expertise in geophysics, remote sensing, and GIS software, along with fieldwork and data processing skills.

What does a typical workday look like for someone in Airborne Geophysics?

A workday in Airborne Geophysics often involves a mix of fieldwork and office-based tasks. When in the field, you may spend several hours in aircraft conducting geophysical surveys, operating specialized instruments, and ensuring data quality, followed by reviewing results and logging information. Outside of field missions, you’ll typically analyze large datasets, interpret results, and collaborate with project teams to prepare reports or presentations. Teamwork is frequent, as you coordinate closely with pilots, engineers, and fellow geoscientists to ensure the safety and success of each survey. The role offers variety and the opportunity to work in dynamic environments, making adaptability and clear communication particularly valuable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Airborne Geophysics position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Airborne Geophysics, you typically need a background in geophysics, geology, or a related earth science field, often supported by a relevant degree and field experience. Familiarity with airborne geophysical survey equipment, GPS navigation systems, and data processing software such as Oasis montaj or GIS platforms is crucial.
