Job description

Touchmark in the West Hills is Portland’s premier full-service retirement community, committed to enriching the lives of residents and their families through five-star hospitality, exceptional services, and compassionate, person-centered care. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medication Aide to join our Memory Care team.

As a Medication Aide in our Memory Care neighborhood, you will play a vital role in supporting residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia by ensuring medications are administered safely, accurately, and with dignity. Beyond medication administration, this role is deeply rooted in compassionate caregiving, meaningful connection, and understanding the unique needs of residents experiencing cognitive change.

Each day, you will have the opportunity to combine your clinical attention to detail with a calm, reassuring presence that helps residents feel safe, respected, and supported. Your ability to build trust, follow individualized routines, and recognize subtle changes in behavior, cognition, or physical condition will directly contribute to residents’ health, comfort, and quality of life.

In this role, you will be responsible for administering medications as ordered, documenting accurately, observing for side effects or changes in condition, and communicating concerns promptly to the nurse and care team. You will also assist with activities of daily living as needed, including support with grooming, hygiene, dressing, mobility, dining, and toileting, always adapting your approach to meet each resident’s cognitive and emotional needs.

Most importantly, this position offers the opportunity to make a profound difference by helping residents maintain comfort, stability, and dignity while supporting families with confidence and peace of mind.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Touchmark’s values of excellence, teamwork, hospitality, integrity, and compassion
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have at least 1 year of Medication Aide experience.
  • Be willing to obtain or maintain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
  • Administer medications safely and accurately while maintaining strict compliance with physician orders, documentation standards, and community policies
  • Be highly observant and able to recognize subtle changes in resident behavior, cognition, appetite, mood, or physical condition
  • Provide support using the The Full Life™ Approach to dementia care, emphasizing familiarity, trust, and emotional reassurance
  • Use patience, gentle cueing, redirection, and calm communication when assisting residents who may be anxious, confused, or resistant
  • Maintain composure, tact, and professionalism when working with residents, families, staff, and visitors
  • Show a commitment to ongoing learning in dementia care, medication safety, and resident wellness
  • Protect resident confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and compassion

Evening positions (2:00 pm – 10:00 pm) are available.

Wage: $21.65 to $25.17 per hour plus $1.00 per hour differential, DOE.
