Description:
Department: ER
Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, with NRP preferred.
Candidates must have recent Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma experience.
A driver's license is required for verification.
Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care.
Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of the contract.
RN candidates must pass an open book exam during orientation with a passing score of 90% or they will be terminated.
Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified, and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
The unit contains 20 beds, including 5 trauma and 10 observation beds, plus hallway beds.
Fast Track service is available with 6 beds.
There is a separate triage area with 3 triage beds.
Security is in-house 24/7.
Staffing ratios are as follows: 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in observation, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma.
Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes requiring TPA.
All common drips associated with a Level I Trauma ER are utilized.
Both ED physicians and mid-levels are staffed.
There is a charge nurse on each shift.
Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters are available on each shift with specified ratios.
Telemetry/monitor techs are present, and RNs are required to read their own strips.
The scheduling includes shifts from 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, and 1900-0700.
Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs.
RNs may float to the observation unit and freestanding emergency room.
There is one week of onboarding and additional unit-specific shifts for orientation.
The work environment is fast-paced and high acuity.
Requests for time off must be provided upfront; only a limited number of days are allowed.
The facility retains the right to cancel a specified number of shifts during the assignment period.
The charting system utilized is EPIC.
A BSN is not required.
Trauma care is provided in an acute setting, with designated nursing divisions.
