You are more than just your resume; you are a reflection of your achievements, the knowledge you've gained, and the personal interests that shape who you are.**Position Overview**This role requires an experienced legal professional who provides support on a wide range of data privacy matters (HIPAA, State Privacy Laws, offshoring, AI, TCPA, etc).Assistant General Counsel, will report directly to the VP, Managing Counsel, Technology and be responsible for advising internal business partners on data use rights, compliance with privacy and security laws and regulations, artificial intelligence, and compliance with cybersecurity obligations of our clients. This position will develop and implement related policies, practices, and training programs, and help business stakeholders to understand and address data rights, data protection, artificial intelligence and privacy issues as they emerge.To be successful in this role, you must be extremely organized and proactive, with a desire to learn and grow. Conducting work with integrity and responsibility, you will be keenly customer-focused, collaborate well with team members and cross-functional business partners, and have positive working relationships with outside counsel. If you are a self-directing, strategically thinking, and detail-oriented individual with a get-it-done attitude, come work with us!**What You’ll Do:*** Work closely with Zelis’ information technology, product, and internal business teams to provide legal advice in support of Zelis’ strategic initiatives. This support will include counseling on a wide variety of technology transactions and initiatives involving data rights, data use, data privacy protection, information security matters, technology procurement, and consumer facing applications.* Support and advise Zelis’ business teams on efforts to develop and build out offshore operations, including review and negotiation of client contracts related to same* Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation and regulatory requirements including any data rights, data use, and security and privacy laws to proactively counsel business units and manage legal exposure* Support the Privacy and Information Security Teams on privacy and security incident response, including client and member notification requirements* Advise Marketing, Product, and Privacy teams on legal requirements related to compliant use of website tracking technologies* Support the Sales Legal Team on various data rights, AI, privacy and offshoring client contract review and negotiation* Draft and review agreements, contracts and other legal documents* Give accurate and timely counsel to internal clients* Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations* Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues* Partner with outside counsel as required* Maintain and promote a positive can-do attitude and professional demeanor**What You’ll Bring To Zelis:*** 5+ years of experience at a law firm or in-house, with some in-house experience, with knowledge of and experience with privacy regulatory and legal frameworks including HIPAA, state privacy laws, TCPA and CAN-SPAM* Substantial experience assessing legal risks relating to data protection, data rights, AI and privacy* Experience negotiating commercial contracts, including security and privacy provisions* Demonstrated accountability and keen ability to meet aggressive time frames* Excellent knowledge and understanding of business law* Exceptional analytical and communication skills* High degree of professional ethics and integrity* Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies* Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information* Handle disputes that may arise in existing commercial relationships* Proficiency with the use of Artificial Intelligence, e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, CoPilot, to streamline workflows and legal operations* Provide guidance and support to our cross-functional colleagues on a wide range of legal issues including data protection/privacy laws, data security, consumer protection laws relating to advertising and product performance claims, and other global legal frameworks, as needed**Experiences/Background:*** J.D. degree from an accredited law school, admitted to practice* 5+ years’ experience handling privacy and data use issues in the healthcare setting* Interest in and general understanding of AI* Experience in the technology sector (preferred)* Experience with AI issues and servicing global clients (preferred).
