What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Design Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Design Intern, you need a foundational understanding of design principles, user experience (UX), and basic knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts, usually supported by coursework or a relevant degree in design or computer science. Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe Creative Suite, as well as prototyping platforms and collaboration tools, is often required. Creativity, a willingness to learn, strong communication, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are important because they enable you to contribute to innovative AI-driven projects and effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

What types of projects can an AI Design Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As an AI Design Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects that blend user experience (UX) design with artificial intelligence technology. Typical assignments may include prototyping conversational interfaces, designing user flows for AI-powered applications, and collaborating with data scientists to visualize machine learning outputs for end users. You'll likely participate in brainstorming sessions, user research, and feedback cycles, gaining hands-on experience in both design thinking and the practical application of AI. This role offers a dynamic environment where interns frequently interact with cross-functional teams, including engineers and product managers.

What does an AI Design Intern do?

An AI Design Intern works under the guidance of experienced professionals to support the development and implementation of artificial intelligence solutions with a focus on design. Their responsibilities often include assisting in designing user interfaces, creating prototypes, and collaborating with engineers and data scientists to ensure AI-driven features are user-friendly and effective. The role helps interns gain hands-on experience in both AI technology and design principles, bridging the gap between technical functionality and user experience.

What is the difference between Ai Design Intern vs Graphic Design Intern?

AspectAi Design InternGraphic Design Intern

Job description

Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.
Join a team shaping the performance of next-gen CPUs and AI/ML chips. As a Physical Design Intern, you'll work hands-on from synthesis through tapeout, collaborating with top engineers to optimize some of the most advanced silicon in the world.
This role is onsite, based out of Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA.
Who You Are
  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in EE, ECE, CE, or CS
  • Solid understanding of logic design, VLSI, and transistor-level concepts
  • Familiar with PnR tools, timing analysis, and power optimization techniques
  • Comfortable scripting in Tcl, Perl, Shell, or Python

What We Need
  • Support key physical design tasks-synthesis, floorplanning, PnR, clocking, timing closure
  • Analyze and improve design PPA (Power, Performance, Area)
  • Collaborate with front-end, PD, and architecture teams to influence early design decisions
  • Explore and implement new flows, tools, or RTL experiments to optimize designs

What You Will Learn
  • End-to-end physical design flow-from RTL handoff to final tapeout
  • Deep dive into timing, power, EM/IR, and area trade-offs
  • Industry-standard tools and techniques for modern chip development
  • How top-tier silicon teams operate at scale

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $50/hr - 70/hr including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.
Tenstorrent offers a highly competitive compensation package and benefits, and we are an equal opportunity employer.
