What is an AI contractor?

AI contractors are professionals or companies hired on a contract basis to develop, implement, or maintain artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for organizations. They typically possess expertise in AI technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision. AI contractors may assist with tasks like building custom AI models, integrating AI into existing systems, or providing technical consultation. Their work helps businesses leverage AI capabilities without needing to hire full-time, in-house specialists.

How does an AI contractor typically collaborate with in-house teams during a project?

AI Contractors often work closely with in-house teams such as software developers, data scientists, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of AI solutions. Communication is key, as contractors must align their work with existing workflows and company objectives, often participating in regular meetings and code reviews. They may also provide documentation and training to help internal staff maintain and scale the implemented AI systems after the contract ends. Establishing clear expectations and frequent updates helps promote a productive partnership and project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI contractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Contractor, you need expertise in machine learning, data analysis, programming (often Python or R), and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and certifications in AI or data science are typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, project management skills, and effective communication help you excel when collaborating with clients and stakeholders. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering successful AI solutions that meet business objectives and adapt to evolving technologies.

Commercial Counsel

Brex

Seattle, WA • On-site

$220K - $270K/yr

Full-time

Posted 23 days ago

Job description

Legal at Brex

The Legal team helps the company grow responsibly, advocating for Brex and for the thousands of growing businesses we serve. We provide strategic advice and guidance to all Brex teams, protect Brex, advise on risk, and represent the company externally, negotiating with partners and interacting with regulators. Reimagining the financial system in a highly regulated environment requires creativity and resourcefulness, and we welcome the challenge.

What you'll do

As Commercial Counsel at Brex, you will be an integral and versatile member of the Legal team and will support all aspects of the Company's commercial legal efforts. You will handle legal review and negotiation of Brex customer contracts, working closely with sales and other revenue-supporting teams to close deals efficiently while protecting the Company's interests. You'll also support vendor and partner contracting, negotiating a range of contracts that serve teams and departments across Brex. You will advise on legal issues that intersect with commercial matters, and collaborate with a wide range of cross-functional partners, including deal desk, ops, procurement, privacy, security, marketing, and people. You will contribute to the development and implementation of commercial legal resources and processes, including internal policies and procedures and contracting workflows. You'll provide sound and pragmatic legal advice and take a business-oriented approach to problem solving!

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer agreements, from initial legal review through final signature, in partnership with sales, deal desk, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the legal review and negotiation of a wide variety of inbound commercial contracts, including AI, SaaS, and other technology agreements, master and professional services agreements, consulting agreements, marketing, agency, and media contracts, event agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in commercial contracting processes, including developing and refining contracting playbooks, internal policies and procedures, and leveraging and optimizing AI contracting tools and contract lifecycle management (CLM) workflows.
  • Identify and mitigate contractual risks within established parameters, escalating complex issues to SMEs and senior legal team members as needed.
  • Provide sound, business-oriented legal advice to cross-functional partners on contract terms, deal structures, and commercial legal risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to understand business needs, contextualize transactions, and translate business, operational and product requirements into clear legal terms and conditions.
  • Be a business partner, not just an attorney!

Requirements

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with taking ownership and acting upon it; you welcome challenges and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments!
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience practicing commercial law, either in-house at a technology company or within the corporate/tech transactions department of a reputable law firm. Experience at fast-paced growing technology companies is preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex technology and commercial contracts; experience with both customer-facing and vendor/inbound contracting is ideal.
  • Exceptional judgment, attention to detail, and integrity, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are a builder, motivated by the continuous development and improvement of  internal processes and resources.
  • Flexible, adaptive, and always open to learning something new.

Bonus Points

  • Fintech or financial services experience, or familiarity with fintech product structures.
  • Working knowledge of privacy issues in a commercial context.
  • Experience working directly with a deal desk team.
  • Experience working with AI contracting tools or contract lifecycle management (CLM) technology.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $220,000-$270,000 USD.  However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.

Brex LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Capital One, N.A.
