Job description

The Marvin Group is a Strategic Partner for Global Alternate Mission Equipment and Sustainment The Marvin Group, a leading defense contractor, plays a crucial role in the development and manufacturing of various systems for military aerospace and vehicles. Based in Southern California near the Los Angeles International Airport, The Marvin Group consists of Marvin Engineering (MEC), Marvin Test Solutions (MTS) and Marvin Land Systems (MLS). Marvin Engineering designs and produces military Alternate Mission Equipment. Marvin Test Solutions designs and manufactures armament Test Equipment. Marvin Land Systems specializes in the design and build of power and thermal management systems. For over 60 years we have maintained 'A Tradition of Excellence', serving as a trusted source for our unwavering commitment to supporting all branches of the Department of Defense and our global allies. Our collaboration extends across a diverse array of programs and platforms, including major military prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon.

Position Summary:

Marvin Group is seeking a hands-on AI Application Developer to rapidly prototype, build, and ship useful AI-enabled internal applications. The developer works directly with users, turns practical workflow needs into maintainable software, and improves solutions through feedback and measured results.

This is a hands-on, experienced technical individual-contributor role for a builder who can translate real business, engineering, operational, and information-management needs into functioning AI-enabled software. The Applied AI Developer works directly with business users, operations, engineering, IT, and leadership to identify high-value automation opportunities; rapidly build practical solutions; integrate them with existing systems; and transition successful prototypes into secure, reliable, maintainable production applications.

The role combines modern application development, AI/LLM application engineering, API and database integration, intelligent workflow design, cloud-hosted deployment, and practical business-process automation.

This is not an academic AI research role, a pure data-science role, a prompt-writing role, a no-code automation role, or a traditional IT-support role. The role is focused on practical delivery of production applications, AI-enabled tools, agents, integrations, and business automations.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve AI-enabled applications, web applications, internal tools, workflow automations, and business systems.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to identify operational, engineering, business-process, information-management, and automation opportunities suitable for AI-enabled solutions.
  • Translate business requirements and ambiguous operational problems into practical technical architectures, prototypes, deployed applications, and maintainable production systems.
  • Build applications using modern technologies such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, SQL, REST APIs, databases, web services, and cloud-based application platforms.
  • Develop applications using frontier large language model platforms, including OpenAI GPT/Codex, Anthropic Claude/Claude Code, Google Gemini, or comparable technologies.
  • Design and implement AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation systems, semantic-search applications, knowledge-retrieval tools, structured-output workflows, tool/function-calling systems, document-processing systems, and multi-step AI automations.
  • Integrate AI-enabled applications with enterprise systems, SaaS platforms, databases, APIs, file repositories, operational systems, cloud services, and external data sources.
  • Use AI-assisted software-engineering environments and coding agents, including Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools, to accelerate design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and maintenance.
  • Rapidly prototype new solutions, validate them with stakeholders, gather feedback, and convert successful concepts into dependable production systems.
  • Implement appropriate application security, authentication, authorization, access controls, logging, error handling, monitoring, testing, version control, deployment, and data-protection practices.
  • Evaluate emerging AI models, frameworks, agent technologies, development tools, integration platforms, and application patterns for reliability, capability, security, cost, maintainability, and practical business value.
  • Document application architecture, system integrations, workflows, data flows, operating procedures, support requirements, technical decisions, and security considerations.
  • Help establish practical engineering standards and governance for secure, reliable, and effective internal use of AI-enabled software and automation systems.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline
  • 2+ of relevant hands-on experience in software development, application development, systems integration, enterprise applications, technical automation, business systems, information technology, computer engineering, or a comparable technical discipline
  • 1+ of hands-on experience applying modern generative AI, frontier LLMs, AI agents, AI-assisted software development, or AI-enabled workflow automation to real applications, technical projects, or business problems
  • Working proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript plus core web concepts such as APIs, HTML/CSS, and client-server behavior
  • Experience with SQL or other application databases, data integration, version control, debugging, testing, and deployment workflows
  • Ability to evaluate nondeterministic AI behavior, define acceptance checks, recognize failure modes, and communicate tradeoffs clearly
  • Hands-on familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, paired with sound engineering judgment and review of generated changes
  • Experience integrating applications with APIs, databases, SaaS platforms, enterprise systems, cloud services, operational technology systems, or external data sources
  • Ability to understand a business or operational problem, propose an appropriate technical approach, build a working solution, obtain user feedback, and improve the solution based on real-world use
  • Strong analytical, systems-thinking, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and problem-solving capabilities

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. All applicants must be “U.S. persons” within the meaning of ITAR, as defined: a U.S. Citizen, a lawful permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee.
