Position: Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor

South Putnam Community Schools is hiring an Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor for the 2026-27 Academic School Year.


About South Putnam: South Putnam MS/HS is a community-focused school known for its rigorous academics and commitment to excellence. The agriculture program is one of the most decorated agricultural education programs in Indiana serving 374 students across 13 courses, offering four distinct pathways: Ag Mechanics, Agriscience, Horticulture, and Landscaping.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Instruction: Deliver high-quality classroom instruction across various agricultural pathways, utilizing hands-on facilities including our $65,000 Aquaponics Learning Center and state-of-the-art agricultural shop.
  • FFA Advising: Serve as a co-advisor for the South Putnam FFA Chapter, supporting over 100 active members in Leadership Development Events (LDEs), Career Development Events (CDEs), and state/national competitions.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the department team to maintain alignment with Indiana state standards and dual-credit requirements through Ivy Tech Community College.
  • Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local stakeholders, including the Putnam County Fair and various industry partners.


Facilities and Resources:


Our program is supported by a commitment to modern facilities and professional growth:

  • Aquaponics Learning Center: We utilize an advanced facility used for tilapia and horticulture production.
  • New Shop Facility: We are in the process of creating a newly-equipped lab for advanced Ag Mechanics and Fabrication pathways.
  • Mobile Aquaculture Classroom: We maintain a self-contained 20-foot unit used for community outreach and recruitment.
  • Ag Advisory Board: We collaborate and seek feedback from the South Putnam Ag Advisory Board.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Indiana Teaching License in Agriculture (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience advising a large FFA chapter with a collaborative mindset.
  • Familiarity with Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program mentorship and record-keeping.
  • Experience with curriculum alignment to Indiana state standards and dual-credit programs (Ivy Tech).
  • Knowledge of the four key pathways: Ag Mechanics, Agriscience (Animals), Horticulture, and Landscaping.
