Job description

Overview

This position is responsible for developing and executing commodity risk management strategies that support Western Milling's financial performance and business objectives. This position provides market intelligence, risk analysis, and actionable recommendations to Western Milling and Viserion leadership to help protect and enhance margins while supporting customer commitments and business growth.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze commodity markets, supply and demand fundamentals, price trends, and market volatility to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Merchandising, Procurement, and Operations to evaluate commodity risks associated with purchasing, pricing, and customer commitments.
  • Assist with communicating commodity risk positions, market outlooks, and strategic recommendations to Western Milling leadership and executive leadership.
  • Support customer meetings and sales presentations by communicating commodity market conditions, pricing trends, and risk management strategies.
  • Adhere to established commodity risk policies, trading limits, and internal controls.
  • Build strong relationships across business functions to ensure commodity decisions support operational execution and customer service objectives as well as align with overall Viserion strategy
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Finance, Business, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in commodity merchandising, commodity risk management, grain trading, agricultural markets, or a related commercial role.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural commodity markets, futures and options, hedging strategies, and risk management principles.
  • Experience managing commodity positions and evaluating market exposure.
  • Experience working with CME futures and options markets.
  • Experience in animal nutrition, feed manufacturing, grain merchandising, or agricultural commodities.
  • Knowledge of ingredient procurement and commodity supply chain management.
Skills
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex market information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence decision-making across multiple departments and levels of leadership.
Physical Requirments
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motion activities, such as typing, regularly.
  • Frequently required to sit for prolonged periods of time, reach for/manipulate standard office equipment, communicate with various staff, and manipulate office equipment and materials.
