Aggregate Mining information

What is aggregate mining?

An Aggregate Mining job involves extracting and processing raw materials like gravel, sand, and crushed stone for use in construction and infrastructure projects. Workers in this field operate heavy machinery, oversee production processes, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Roles can range from equipment operators and technicians to supervisors and engineers. This industry plays a crucial role in supplying essential materials for roads, buildings, and other structures.

What are the common daily responsibilities for someone working in aggregate mining?

In an Aggregate Mining role, your typical day can include operating heavy machinery to extract and move raw materials, conducting inspections for equipment maintenance, and monitoring site safety. You may also be responsible for adhering to environmental regulations, recording production data, and collaborating with team members to optimize extraction efficiency. The role often requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve physically demanding tasks. Effective teamwork and clear communication are crucial, as tasks are coordinated closely with supervisors, equipment operators, and quality control staff to ensure safe and productive operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in aggregate mining, and why are they important?

To thrive in Aggregate Mining, you need a solid understanding of extraction processes, equipment operation, and safety protocols, often backed by experience or certifications in heavy machinery operation or mining safety. Familiarity with mining-specific tools such as crushers, conveyors, loaders, and compliance with MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations is essential. Strong teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are key soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient extraction of materials while maintaining high productivity and adherence to safety standards.

Job description

About Us:
Solidus Resources is a U.S.-based gold development company backed by Waterton Mining. The company is focused on advancing the Spring Valley Gold Project in Pershing County, Nevada, and specializes in taking high potential gold assets through late-stage development and into production. Solidus applies a technically rigorous, capital-disciplined approach to mine development, with a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship, operational safety, and community engagement.
The Spring Valley Gold Project is located in the prolific Humboldt Range, an area with approximately 60 million ounces of gold endowment within a 50-mile radius. Envisioned as a long-life, low-cost open-pit, heap-leach operation, Spring Valley has a robust resource base and considerable exploration upside along a 7-mile strike length across the Black Ridge fault zone.
With a leadership team experienced in engineering, permitting, and large-scale project execution, Solidus Resources is advancing Spring Valley through feasibility, permitting, and construction, with a clear path toward operational readiness. The company's goal is to responsibly unlock the value of U.S.-based gold assets while building a reputation for excellence in project delivery and sustainable development.
Position Overview:
The Fixed Plant Superintendent is responsible for establishing and leading maintenance activities for a new crushing, conveying, and gold processing operation. This role will build maintenance systems, recruit and develop the maintenance team, implement reliability-centered maintenance practices, and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the fixed plant, ADR (Adsorption, Desorption, Recovery) process plant, and associated heap leach facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in commissioning, startup, and the long-term reliability of critical processing infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
  • Lead maintenance activities across the crushing, conveying, ADR process plant, and heap leach facilities to maximize equipment reliability and availability.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and maintenance readiness for the new facility.
  • Oversee maintenance of fixed plant equipment, including crushers, conveyors, pumps, piping, hydraulic and lubrication systems, electrical and instrumentation systems, leach solution distribution, carbon handling, elution circuits, electrowinning, reagent systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Implement condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing maintenance team while managing contractors and external service providers.
  • Establish maintenance procedures, SOPs, asset registers, and CMMS standards.
  • Plan maintenance resources, spare parts, tooling, and contractor support.
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs, including equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, backlog, and costs.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, metallurgy, and project teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of maintenance experience in mining, mineral processing, gold processing, aggregates, or another heavy industrial environment.
  • 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience.
  • Experience maintaining crushing, conveying, and fixed plant equipment.
  • Experience supporting ADR process plants, heap leach operations, or other gold recovery processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • Greenfield or commissioning experience preferred.
  • Mechanical trade certification, technical diploma, or related degree is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

The pay range for this role is:
130,000 - 150,000 USD per year (US)
