Agentic Developers information

Is agentic AI going to replace developers?

Agentic AI refers to systems capable of autonomous decision-making, which can assist developers by automating routine tasks and code generation. However, it is unlikely to fully replace developers, as human oversight, creativity, and problem-solving remain essential in software development. Developers will continue to adapt by working alongside AI tools and focusing on complex, strategic aspects of their work.

What is a $900000 AI job?

A $900,000 AI job typically refers to a high-paying position in artificial intelligence, such as senior machine learning engineer or AI research director, often requiring advanced skills in programming, data analysis, and deep learning. These roles may involve leading projects, developing innovative algorithms, and working in competitive tech environments, with compensation reflecting expertise and experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Agentic Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Agentic Developer, you need a solid background in software engineering, AI/ML concepts, and agent-based systems, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with frameworks such as LangChain, OpenAI APIs, and experience with cloud platforms and workflow orchestration tools are typically expected. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this emerging field. These competencies enable Agentic Developers to design, build, and manage intelligent, autonomous agents that deliver innovative solutions and adapt to complex real-world tasks.

What is an agentic developer?

An agentic developer is a software developer who takes initiative and responsibility for their work, often demonstrating autonomy and proactive problem-solving. They are skilled in coding, collaboration, and may use tools like version control systems to manage projects effectively.

What is the difference between Agentic Developers vs Software Engineers?

Agentic Developers and Software Engineers share similar credentials and work environments, often overlapping in tech companies and startups. However, Agentic Developers typically emphasize a proactive, autonomous approach to project execution, whereas Software Engineers focus more on designing, coding, and maintaining software solutions. Understanding these distinctions helps employers and job seekers align expectations and roles effectively.

How do Agentic Developers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement autonomous systems?

Agentic Developers often work closely with data scientists, UX/UI designers, and product managers to build and integrate autonomous agents within larger software systems. Collaboration usually involves regular sprint meetings, sharing progress on task automation, and aligning system behaviors with user and business requirements. This multidisciplinary teamwork ensures that agentic solutions are robust, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals. Open communication and a willingness to iterate on feedback are key to success in this role.

Are agentic AI developers in demand?

Agentic AI developers are in high demand as organizations seek professionals skilled in designing autonomous and adaptive AI systems. The role typically requires expertise in machine learning, programming, and AI frameworks, with job growth driven by increasing adoption of intelligent automation across industries.

What are agentic developers?

Agentic developers are software professionals who design, build, or work with systems that exhibit agency—meaning the system can make autonomous decisions and take actions to achieve specific goals. These developers often focus on creating advanced AI agents, multi-agent systems, or applications that integrate autonomous behaviors. Their work typically involves a mix of programming, machine learning, and system design to enable intelligent, proactive software. Agentic developers are increasingly in demand as AI-driven applications become more common across industries.

Job description

Agentic Engineer — Build, Experiment & Ship

Position: Agentic Engineer I

At Nexteer, our strength lies in the diversity of our team—each member contributing unique backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations. We believe this diversity fuels our innovation, broadens our perspectives, and propels our collective growth.

For over a century, we’ve been innovators in the automotive industry.  Our vision is clear - we are a global leading motion control technology company accelerating mobility to be safe, green and exciting. Our unwavering commitment to Quality, Collaboration, Integrity, and Accountability guides us as we solve motion control challenges for our global customers. If you’re ready to join a dynamic team that drives change and makes a difference, Nexteer welcomes you!

About the Role:

Are you fascinated by the power of AI agents to transform how engineering teams work? Do you thrive in a high-velocity environment where you can build, test, and iterate on wild ideas in days rather than months?

We are looking for AI Agentic Development Engineers to join and build a new Applied AI team. In this role, you won't just be maintaining legacy systems, you will be the ultimate accelerator for our cross-functional engineering teams. Your mission is to design, develop, and deploy rapid prototypes of AI-driven tools and agentic workflows that automate complex tasks, eliminate friction, and radically optimize our engineering processes.

We operate on a philosophy of learning fast, failing fast, and delivering faster. If you are a bias-for-action developer who thinks outside the box and measures success by working code and measurable efficiency gains, we want you to be on our team.

This is an individual contributor role and the selected candidate will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule.

Key Responsibilities

As an Agentic Engineer I, you will be responsible to:

  • Help design and build simple prototypes (early versions) of AI-powered tools and automation solutions
  • Partner closely with Product Engineering teams to deeply understand their workflows, identify bottlenecks, and embed AI solutions where they matter most.
  • Use AI tools and frameworks (like ChatGPT-style models or similar platforms) to create helpful workflows and automate everyday tasks
  • Help improve and streamline engineering processes by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting solutions
  • Participate in testing new ideas by quickly building, trying, and improving prototypes
  • Embrace a fail-fast approach — short cycles, quick learning, and moving on with better information
  • Support the setup and deployment of tools, including helping manage environments where solutions run
  • Evaluate tools and models through hands-on use, not benchmarks alone
  • Help identify what scales and what doesn't based on real-world deployment behavior
  • Document validated patterns that contribute to the team's shared AI use case library
  • Think in terms of scale: how do I share my work, knowledge, and practices with others so they can join the mission

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of related experience (or equivalent hands-on projects)
  • Familiarity with AI tools and large language models (like ChatGPT or similar) and how they can be used in applications
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python or TypeScript
  • Some experience connecting systems using APIs or web tools (for example, integrating with tools like Slack, GitHub, or Jira)
  • Basic understanding of how data is used in AI solutions, including concepts like prompts, embeddings, or search-based responses
  • Exposure to automation tools or platforms (such as workflow builders or similar technologies )
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills, where problems are complex
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Conflict resolution & risk escalation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience working in a team environment
  • General understanding of how products are developed from idea to release
  • Awareness of technical & commercial aspects

Additional Things We’re Looking For

  • Navigate ambiguity to make decisions and deliver completed work, maintaining momentum even when conditions are not fully defined.
  • Take initiative to begin work with partial information, iterating and refining requirements as insights evolve.
  • You're naturally curious and self-directed — you build things because you want to understand how they work, not just because it's on a task list.
  • You've containerized, self-hosted, and deployed real projects. You've seen something work perfectly in a local environment and behave differently in production — and that experience has made you a better engineer.
  • The clearest signal: you have something running somewhere that isn't your own machine. You stay current with AI tools by using them, not just reading about them.
  • We're more interested in what you've built than what's on your resume. Share something you've deployed — a repository, a live URL, or a brief walkthrough. Tell us what didn't go as planned and what you took away from it.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Information Science or Machine Learning
