What is an agent based modeling?

An Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) job involves developing and implementing simulations that model the interactions of autonomous agents within a system. These roles are common in fields like economics, epidemiology, traffic modeling, and artificial intelligence. Professionals in this role use programming and mathematical models to analyze complex systems and predict emergent behaviors. Key skills typically include coding (Python, NetLogo, or AnyLogic), data analysis, and knowledge of computational modeling techniques.

What are some typical challenges faced in an agent based modeling position?

A common challenge in Agent Based Modeling is accurately representing complex, real-world systems with diverse and dynamic agents while balancing computational resources and model simplicity. Professionals in this role often need to validate and calibrate their models with limited or imperfect data, requiring both technical skill and creativity. Additionally, effectively communicating modeling results to non-technical stakeholders and integrating feedback into iterations is a key part of the job. Overcoming these challenges provides rewarding opportunities to contribute to innovative solutions across areas like finance, healthcare, logistics, or social sciences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the agent based modeling position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Agent Based Modeling role, a strong background in computational modeling, mathematics, and systems analysis is typically required, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools such as NetLogo, AnyLogic, or Repast, as well as programming languages like Python or Java, is highly valuable. Effective communication, critical thinking, and strong collaboration skills help professionals explain complex models to stakeholders and work within multidisciplinary teams. These qualities are crucial for accurately simulating real-world systems, delivering actionable insights, and driving informed decision-making in various industries.

Job description

Senior Product Manager | Remote (Portland-based) | Competitive Salary + Benefits | Tech

The Company

A high-growth technology organization operates at the intersection of advanced software, data, and digital commerce. This ambitious team is building sophisticated tools that help modern businesses scale more efficiently, combining automation with strategic human insight. With a strong emphasis on learning, accountability, and thoughtful execution, the organization values people who thrive in fast-moving environments and take ownership of meaningful outcomes.

The Role

They are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the evolution of their AI capabilities and define how intelligence is embedded across the platform. This role owns the vision for AI-powered systems including optimization engines, generative experiences, predictive forecasting, agent-based workflows, and automated decision-making.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership position for someone who has delivered AI and machine learning products at scale and is comfortable operating at the crossroads of strategy, system design, and execution. The role partners closely with engineering, data science, and executive leadership while guiding a team of AI-focused product managers.

The Responsibilities

  • Set and own a multi-year roadmap for AI-driven products, spanning optimization, prediction, automation, and generative intelligence.
  • Identify emerging technologies and methodologies and translate them into high-impact product initiatives.
  • Define how AI enhances user outcomes across all product surfaces.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of AI product managers, encouraging high standards, experimentation, and fast learning cycles.
  • Work deeply with machine learning, data, platform, go-to-market, and customer teams to ensure strong execution.
  • Align senior stakeholders on priorities, tradeoffs, and long-term direction.
  • Partner with technical leaders to shape data strategy, model training approaches, evaluation metrics, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Guide best practices for model deployment, monitoring, governance, explainability, and responsible use.
  • Ensure models continuously improve through feedback loops and structured testing.
  • Drive product design for AI components such as optimization models, forecasting engines, creative intelligence, agent frameworks, and insight-generation systems.
  • Ensure AI systems are scalable, reliable, interpretable, and aligned with real customer needs.
  • Clearly articulate AI strategy, outcomes, and tradeoffs to technical teams, executives, and customer-facing groups.
  • Act as the senior product voice for AI initiatives across the organization.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into compelling business value narratives.
  • Ensure AI features are intuitive, configurable, and trusted by users.
  • Partner with design to create transparent interfaces that explain AI-driven decisions and give users appropriate control.
  • Drive measurable adoption and business impact across customer segments.

The Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of product management experience, with deep exposure to AI- or ML-powered products.
  • Proven track record of delivering and scaling machine learning systems in production environments.
  • Strong technical fluency across model training, evaluation, experimentation, and deployment concepts.
  • Experience leading product managers and influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complexity and align diverse audiences.
  • Highly analytical mindset with comfort in metrics, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Background in fast-paced SaaS, advertising technology, retail media, or similar environments.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with advertising platforms, bidding systems, forecasting models, or performance optimization.
  • Hands-on exposure to generative AI, LLMs, or agent-based systems in real-world applications.
  • Mandarin language skills to support cross-regional collaboration.

Apply Now

This is an opportunity to shape the intelligence layer of a platform used at massive scale and to influence how AI delivers real, everyday value for customers. If they are excited by complex systems, big ownership, and building practical AI products that matter, they are encouraged to apply and help define what’s next.
