What is an Agent-Based Modeling job?

An Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) job involves developing and implementing simulations that model the interactions of autonomous agents within a system. These roles are common in fields like economics, epidemiology, traffic modeling, and artificial intelligence. Professionals in this role use programming and mathematical models to analyze complex systems and predict emergent behaviors. Key skills typically include coding (Python, NetLogo, or AnyLogic), data analysis, and knowledge of computational modeling techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Agent Based Modeling position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Agent Based Modeling role, a strong background in computational modeling, mathematics, and systems analysis is typically required, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools such as NetLogo, AnyLogic, or Repast, as well as programming languages like Python or Java, is highly valuable. Effective communication, critical thinking, and strong collaboration skills help professionals explain complex models to stakeholders and work within multidisciplinary teams. These qualities are crucial for accurately simulating real-world systems, delivering actionable insights, and driving informed decision-making in various industries.

What are some typical challenges faced in an Agent Based Modeling position?

A common challenge in Agent Based Modeling is accurately representing complex, real-world systems with diverse and dynamic agents while balancing computational resources and model simplicity. Professionals in this role often need to validate and calibrate their models with limited or imperfect data, requiring both technical skill and creativity. Additionally, effectively communicating modeling results to non-technical stakeholders and integrating feedback into iterations is a key part of the job. Overcoming these challenges provides rewarding opportunities to contribute to innovative solutions across areas like finance, healthcare, logistics, or social sciences.

What You Will Do:

The Senior Data Scientist, Life Sciences Technology Solutions, is responsible for designing, developing, and operationalizing data products, machine learning models, and AI-enabled capabilities within scalable technology platforms for biopharma clients. This role sits at the intersection of advanced analytics, AI/ML, and software-enabled delivery, embedding data-driven intelligence directly into applications, workflows, and decision systems.

The Senior Data Scientist works within cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and consultants to translate complex healthcare data into production-ready solutions. Success in this role is defined by the ability to build robust, reusable models and data assets that power real-time insights, support decision-making, and scale across clients and use cases.

  • Design and develop data products and machine learning models embedded within client-facing platforms and applications.

  • Operationalize analytics by integrating models, algorithms, and data pipelines into production systems and workflow-driven applications.

  • Work with large-scale healthcare datasets (e.g., claims, EMR, and external data sources) to enable scalable insight delivery within platforms.

  • Build and validate predictive, descriptive, and segmentation models that support decision systems across commercial, market access, and medical use cases.

  • Contribute to development of AI/ML-enabled applications, including GenAI, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows, ensuring outputs are scalable, traceable, and production-ready.

  • Collaborate with engineers and architects to deploy models via APIs, microservices, and cloud-based environments.

  • Develop modular, reusable code, data pipelines, and feature libraries that can be leveraged across multiple solutions.

  • Translate complex analytical logic into clear, user-facing outputs within applications, dashboards, and automated workflows.

  • Ensure data quality, model performance, and governance standards across deployed solutions.

  • Contribute to innovation and development of next-generation data products and analytics capabilities across the technology portfolio.

What You Will Need:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  • 8+ years of experience developing and deploying AI/machine learning solutions in production environments.

  • Strong experience working with large-scale healthcare or life sciences datasets (e.g., claims, EMR, or similar).

  • Proficiency in Python and/or R, with strong SQL skills and experience building data pipelines.

  • Experience deploying models within cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP).

  • Familiarity with API-based model deployment and scalable system integration.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to operate in cross-functional teams.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Experience with GenAI, LLMs, RAG pipelines, or agent-based systems.

  • Familiarity with healthcare data models, payer/provider structures, and life sciences use cases.

  • Experience building reusable data products or analytics-enabled applications.

  • Exposure to MLOps practices, model monitoring, and lifecycle management.

  • Consulting or client-facing experience in life sciences or healthcare technology.

The annual salary range for this position is $135,000.00-$225,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
