What is an agent based modeling?

An Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) job involves developing and implementing simulations that model the interactions of autonomous agents within a system. These roles are common in fields like economics, epidemiology, traffic modeling, and artificial intelligence. Professionals in this role use programming and mathematical models to analyze complex systems and predict emergent behaviors. Key skills typically include coding (Python, NetLogo, or AnyLogic), data analysis, and knowledge of computational modeling techniques.

What are some typical challenges faced in an agent based modeling position?

A common challenge in Agent Based Modeling is accurately representing complex, real-world systems with diverse and dynamic agents while balancing computational resources and model simplicity. Professionals in this role often need to validate and calibrate their models with limited or imperfect data, requiring both technical skill and creativity. Additionally, effectively communicating modeling results to non-technical stakeholders and integrating feedback into iterations is a key part of the job. Overcoming these challenges provides rewarding opportunities to contribute to innovative solutions across areas like finance, healthcare, logistics, or social sciences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the agent based modeling position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Agent Based Modeling role, a strong background in computational modeling, mathematics, and systems analysis is typically required, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools such as NetLogo, AnyLogic, or Repast, as well as programming languages like Python or Java, is highly valuable. Effective communication, critical thinking, and strong collaboration skills help professionals explain complex models to stakeholders and work within multidisciplinary teams. These qualities are crucial for accurately simulating real-world systems, delivering actionable insights, and driving informed decision-making in various industries.

Job description

A leading global private investment firm is seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst to join its Data & Analytics team. This is a high-visibility role that spans private markets, business intelligence, data products, automation, and emerging AI technology.

You will work directly with investment, finance, and operational teams to understand complex business needs and turn them into practical dashboards, analytics tools, automated workflows, and AI-enabled solutions. The position offers meaningful ownership from initial discovery and requirements gathering through design, implementation, adoption, and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support data and reporting solutions across private-market investment and business teams.
  • Gather requirements, identify high-value opportunities, and translate business needs into clear technical and functional specifications.
  • Develop and support dashboards and analytical tools using Tableau or Power BI.
  • Identify, prototype, and deploy practical applications of large language models, automation, and agent-based workflows.
  • Partner with developers, data teams, vendors, and business stakeholders throughout design, testing, implementation, and training.
  • Evaluate existing systems and workflows, identify risks or inefficiencies, and recommend scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Experience in business systems, data analytics, business intelligence, technology consulting, product analytics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with Tableau or Power BI
  • Experience gathering requirements and delivering solutions through testing, implementation, and user adoption
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical teams and sophisticated business stakeholders
  • Python experience for data analysis or automation strongly preferred
  • Exposure to SQL, Snowflake, AWS, data warehouses, integrations, or scripting is a plus
  • Familiarity with large language models, AI-assisted development tools, prompt engineering, or workflow automation is highly valued
  • Experience within investment management, private equity, venture capital, financial services, or another data-intensive environment is a plus

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Direct exposure to investment, finance, and operational teams across multiple private-market strategies
  • Meaningful ownership of analytics, automation, and AI initiatives
  • Opportunity to evaluate and implement modern tools rather than simply maintain legacy reporting
  • Highly collaborative team with strong internal mobility and long-term career growth
  • Competitive compensation, generous employer-funded profit sharing, and excellent benefits

Compensation

Base salary depending on experience, plus a 15% target annual bonus, generous employer-funded profit sharing, and a comprehensive benefits package.
