SubsidiarySuperior Aluminum AlloysOverview

Superior Aluminum Alloys is seeking a safety professional who is passionate for training and employee safety.  The Safety Coordinator position will primarily focus on developing, implementing and maintaining a training program for all hourly positions in our secondary aluminum smelting facility, while supporting other core safety responsibilities for the plant and the company.  The position will coordinate with operations to develop comprehensive training for both safety (e.g. JSAs) and tasks (SOPs).  They will collaborate with leadership and other safety professionals to achieve world-class in all SDI Take Control of Safety (TCOS) initiatives and drive the division's incident and PSIF rate to zero.

Responsibilities

The SAA Safety Coordinator will lead, assist or support all Safety Coordinator Core Responsibilities including:

  • Develop and deliver world class Safety Training
  • Attend employee meetings and walk the floor as an Impactful Presence
  • Build Relationships Through Meaningful Employee Engagements
  • Assist execution of world class TCOS Performance
  • Seek Professional Development and Continued Education
  • Pursue Safety Innovation
  • Push for Data Driven Continuous Improvement using safety metrics, trends and leading indicators
  • Ensure Safety Calendar Execution
  • Develop and execute the annual Safety Plan
  • Support Exposure / Hazard / Behavior Assessments
  • Coordinate Post-Incident Management
  • Provide Overall Safety Compliance Knowledge, Assurance and Execution
Qualifications

Required:

  • Passion for safety and continuous improvement
  • Experience developing and/or executing safety training programs
  • Ability to work as a change agent, working across all disciplines and employee levels
  • 24-hour availability to the plant, as required
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS related field
  • Three or more years of experience in industrial safety

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest and most diversified domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with an estimated steelmaking and coating capacity of approximately 13 million tons, and facilities located throughout the United States and in Mexico. We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input. Our circular economy is powered by our three primary operating platforms: steel, metals recycling, and steel fabrication. Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our EAF steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.
