Examines plans and specifications of structures and facilities to determine compliance with state statutes, State Fire Marshal regulations, codes and standards. Supervises Fire Plans Examiners.

Job Duties: Directs the work of the Plans Division. Oversees online application process. Reviews architectural plans and specifications to determine compliance with SFM adopted codes and regulations, including NFPA 101, and Nebraska Accessibility Guidelines. Supervises Plans Division staff. Agency leader of fire code adoption, interpretation and training. Meet with design professionals and provide guidance for fire code adherence. Other duties as assigned and within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum two years post high school education in architecture, engineering, or fire science OR five years equivalent job-related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: NFPA Fire Plans Examiner Certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Fire science knowledge. Building construction knowledge.
Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of Agency fire codes, statutes and regulations. Knowledge of building construction process. Fire science knowledge.
Ability to comprehend, interpret, enforce and effectively communicate complex, technical material to professionals, co-workers and the public. Ability to utilize critical thinking to ensure public safety is provided without causing an undue financial hardship.
