Department: Early Childhood Education - School-Aged Childcare (SACC)
FLSA Status: Non-Union / Non-Represented, Non-Exempt
Reports To: SACC Site Supervisor
Hours: 3:00 - 6:00 pm
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Position Overview:
The SACC Program Aide assists in the implementation of the School-Aged Childcare (SACC) before- and after-school program. Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Program Aide supports daily activities, supervises children, and helps maintain a safe, nurturing, and organized program environment.
The Program Aide is responsible for promoting a positive atmosphere that reflects the mission of Branford Public Schools and adheres to Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) and program guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Child Supervision and Program Support
  • Assist in supervising children enrolled in the SACC program, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Implement program plans and activities developed by the Site Supervisor.
  • Support age-appropriate activities consistent with program goals and the developmental needs of school-age children.
  • Maintain awareness of and follow the established daily program schedule.

Classroom and Site Maintenance
  • Assist in setting up the site in preparation for program activities.
  • Assist in cleaning and organizing the site daily to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Help maintain a site environment that reflects the quality and professionalism of the program.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate professionalism by being punctual, reliable, and prepared to implement program plans effectively.
  • Demonstrate model behavior when interacting with children, families, and other SACC staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
  • Respect children's rights and feelings and interact in a positive, supportive manner.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute as a cooperative member of the SACC team.
  • Meet regularly with the Site Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator to share updates, address concerns, and plan next steps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Supervisor or designee.

Education & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • First Aid certification, preferred.
  • Experience working with school-age children.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work effectively with school-age children in a structured group setting.
  • Ability to follow direction and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing environment.
  • Understanding of and willingness to support Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS).
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability, initiative, and professionalism.
