Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Student Safety & Discipline: Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus and ensuring student safety during transit. Monitor and assist students while the bus is in operation.

  • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Collaborate with the bus driver to document student information, maintain accurate records, and complete route surveys as needed.

  • Safety Equipment: Ensure that seat belts, harnesses, and wheelchair clamps are properly secured as required by safety regulations.

  • Loading & Unloading Assistance: Support parents and school personnel in the safe loading and unloading of students. Coordinate the seating of pre-kindergarten students according to State Transportation Guidelines.

  • Communication: Liaise with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents regarding student background, medical issues, and behavior as appropriate.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Stay up-to-date with Emergency Evacuation procedures and be prepared to assist in emergency situations.

  • Support for Handicapped Students: Assist handicapped children on and off the bus, escort them across the street upon return home, lift children as necessary, and ensure a responsible adult meets students as they leave the bus.

  • Professional Development: Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned to maintain knowledge and skills.

  • Attendance: Maintain regular attendance and be punctual in fulfilling responsibilities.
