IT/MDM QA Consultant (Remote, Part-Time Contract)

Remote

Part-time

Posted 21 days ago

Job description

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha Schools. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.
We are hiring an IT/MDM QA Consultant on a short-term, part-time contract to review the quality of our internal Mac deployment and classroom tooling. We are building internal tools in the same category as Zoom and GoGuardian, video conferencing and student monitoring on student Macs, and we need someone experienced to look at our processes, catch what we are missing, and help us raise the bar on how we ship and manage this software across the fleet.
What You'll Do
  • Review Our QA Processes: Look at how we currently test and validate our internal Mac tooling. Tell us where the gaps are, what is missing, and what a mature process should look like at our stage.
  • Audit MDM Deployment Flows: Review how we package, deploy, and manage installation of PKGs across our managed Mac fleet. Flag risks, brittleness, and rollback gaps.
  • Evaluate TCC and PPPC Configuration: Review how we handle privacy permissions, PPPC profiles, and TCC prompts for our video conferencing and student monitoring tools. Make sure we are doing this cleanly and predictably.
  • Pressure-Test the Student Experience: Walk through what a student actually sees on a managed Mac when our tools are deployed, updated, or fail. Identify where the experience breaks or looks unprofessional.
  • Advise the Team: Give our engineering and IT team direct, practical feedback. Write it up clearly so we can act on it.
  • Recommend Tooling and Standards: Point us to the tools, patterns, and standards we should adopt to make this repeatable as we grow.

Requirements
  • Deep MDM Experience: You have worked hands-on in managed Mac environments using Jamf, Kandji, Mosyle, Intune, or similar. You understand how these systems actually behave in the field.
  • Mac Deployment Expertise: You have real experience with managed installation of PKGs, signing and notarization, and packaging Mac software for controlled rollout.
  • TCC and PPPC Fluency: You know how to configure privacy permissions, deploy PPPC profiles, and troubleshoot TCC issues on managed Macs.
  • Classroom or Monitoring Tool Experience: You have shipped, deployed, or QA'd software similar to Zoom, GoGuardian, Jamf School, Classroom, or comparable video conferencing and student monitoring tools.
  • Strong QA Judgment: You know what a real QA process looks like, and you can spot what is missing from ours quickly.
  • Clear Communicator: You can write up findings in a way an engineering team can act on, and you can hold a productive conversation with technical stakeholders.
  • Location and Setup: Fully remote.

Bonus Points
  • Apple Certifications: ACSP, ACMT, or Apple Deployment and Management certifications.
  • Scripting for Mac Fleet Management: You are comfortable with shell, Python, or Swift for automating MDM and deployment tasks.
  • Security and Compliance Awareness: You understand student data privacy, FERPA, and how compliance intersects with student device management.

Engagement Details
  • Type: Part-time consulting contract
  • Hours: 10 to 20 hours per week
  • Duration: Short-term engagement (initial scope, extendable based on findings and fit)
  • Rate: Competitive contract rate, based on experience
