Job description

Definition:

A field trip driver is an employee who is directly under the supervision of Dispatch or the Operations Manager. In addition, a field trip driver must be available with adequate notice to drive long distances with the possibility of overnight stays. This position requires a perfect or near perfect driving record that does not involve vehicular collisions and incidents. The field trip driver may be responsible for assisting drivers during roll out and at the end of day when not needed for a field trip.

Cover / Bus Driver Duties:

  • Drive a bus when required to do so based on need of field trips out of town or during route times.
  • Transport school pupils and teachers on school activity trips.
  • Perform daily inspections of buses and associated equipment prior to transportation of passengers.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among school pupils or clients.
  • Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, school administrators, guardians, medical practitioners, medical facilities, and the public in general.
  • Keep a professional standard while conducting business on the two-way radio.
  • Report in a timely manner any problems while out on the field covering a trip or route
  • Keep records and submit reports as required daily.
  • Wash, sweep, clean and refuel buses as required.
  • Report all mechanical deficiencies in writing promptly.
  • Conduct safe riding instruction and perform bus evacuation drills as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

Field Trip Driver duties:

  • This position is primarily based on the need of operation.
  • A willingness to be flexible with hours is a must.
  • There is no guarantee of daily hours, unless the applicant is willing to drive morning/afternoon routes when no field trips are available.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement
  • Texas School Bus Certificate
  • Current report of DOT Physical Examination
  • Has demonstrated proficiency in the operation of all assigned vehicles, including extra equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, and air brakes, transit bus training, under all road and weather conditions.
  • May need to be approved by our customer.
  • Be properly and professionally dressed at all times and follow local dress code policy.
