Compensation: $20.00–$25.00 Hourly

Job Summary:

As a Laborer, you will support construction crews by performing manual labor tasks and assisting with underground utility and telecommunications construction activities. You will help prepare materials, operate small equipment, maintain safe and organized jobsites, and support field crews to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.

This is a traveling position throughout the Midwest and includes per diem and full benefits. Training is provided for qualified candidates with basic construction knowledge and a strong willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Attend and participate in morning and afternoon job-specific safety meetings and huddles
  • Operate various tamping machines according to specifications
  • Inspect machines and equipment and assist with routine maintenance
  • Load and unload jobsite materials, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Inspect and safely operate hand tools for various construction activities
  • Assist equipment operators with trench excavation, shoring, and backfilling procedures
  • Place conduit in open trenches and assist with conduit proofing
  • Assist with potholing and identification of existing utilities
  • Assist with setting structures and related construction activities
  • Assist with forming and pouring concrete
  • Assist with preparation and placement of asphalt
  • Maintain company vehicles and equipment and support safe and efficient utilization
  • Ensure completed activities comply with customer requirements and project specifications
  • Observe and promote company safety procedures and policies
  • Participate in required and random drug screening programs
  • Report injuries, accidents, and unsafe conditions to the Foreman or Supervisor
  • Assist crew members in maintaining clean and organized jobsites at the end of each shift
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review

Experience

  • Basic knowledge of the construction industry preferred; training provided
  • Previous underground utility or telecommunications construction experience is a plus

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a crew environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew members, leadership, and clients
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and policies
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools and small equipment safely
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to perform a variety of physically demanding manual tasks for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the Midwest
  • Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work safely while wearing required personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in underground utility or telecommunications construction
  • Experience operating small construction equipment and hand tools
  • CDL driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a construction crew
  • Ability to identify opportunities for continued improvement

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work safely around construction equipment, vehicles, and active jobsites
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of personnel, vehicles, equipment, and surrounding hazards
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other applicable PPE
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the Midwest
