OVERVIEW
• Administers care, treatment and medication to residents
• Monitors and records residents' medical/vital signs;
• Trains and provides direction for appropriate staff in basic bedside nursing care
• Assists with transportation of residents as needed
• Administers emergency care to residents as needed
• Draws blood and collects lab specimens as ordered by physician
• Orders medications and supplies
• Communicates pertinent information to physicians and lead nurse/nurse supervisor
• Monitors residents' nutritional status and intake
• Administers tube feedings
• Implements immediate procedures to effectively deal with aggressive or agitated residents
• Prepares reports as required
• Assumes duties of charge nurse as required
• Provides supervisory duties and in-service training as required
Requirements
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing and skill in applying same
• Knowledge of emergency transference procedures
• Knowledge of pharmacology as applied to preparing and distributing medications
• Ability to meet the special needs of elderly and disabled residents
• Ability to interact with residents and fellow staff members in a pleasant manner
• Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
• Ability to train and supervise personnel
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
• The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients/residents weighing over 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
