About This Role

Mercy Baptist CDC is committed to providing a high-quality educational experience that fosters the growth and development of both staff and students in a nurturing environment. Our focus is on language and communication development through exploration, play, socialization, and evidence-based curriculum activities. We are partnered with the Child and Adult Care Food Program to serve delicious and nutritious meals to around 60 kids daily. We are seeking a skilled cook to join our team and contribute to our Center's growth.

What You'll Do

The chef will be responsible for ensuring compliance with DHEC kitchen requirements, which includes labeling food items, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, washing, sanitizing, and storing dishes and utensils properly, and adhering to DHEC and DSS licensing standards for food preparation and storage.


They will assist in menu planning, write a weekly menu, prep and serve breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, and participate in CACFP documentation. Additionally, the chef will learn to prepare food for special events at the Center.


The chef is expected to be punctual and start work at 7:00 am Monday-Friday, with an end time of 1:30/2:00.


Requirements

Must be able to read and write in English to follow recipes and fill out related forms.

Reliable transportation is a requirement.

The ability to measure wet and dry ingredients accurately.

BASIC CULINARY/COOKING KNOWLEDGE

Ability to lift 25 lbs, stand and walk for lengthy periods.

Safely operating a variety of kitchen equipment and utensils, including mixers, knives, peelers, electric can openers, etc.

Must be able to pass a background check and complete DSS Childcare employee requirements, including a health evaluation and tuberculosis screening.


Nice To Haves

Desirable qualifications include 6 months of experience working in a DSS licensed child care facility.

Previous experience cooking for large volumes of people would be advantageous.

Formal education or knowledge of food patterns for children is a plus.
