Reports To: Principal or Extended Day Coordinator Position Type: Hourly, 10-Month Position Work Schedule: Typically 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (school days)
Position Summary

The Extended Day Staff member is responsible for providing supervision, care, and engaging activities for students enrolled in the school’s before and after-school program. This position supports the well-being, safety, and enrichment of students while fostering a positive, inclusive, and orderly environment consistent with the mission and expectations of River City Science Academy standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety, well-being, and proper conduct of students at all times.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities, including academic support, homework help, and enrichment opportunities (STEAM, character development, arts, and recreation).
  • Maintain a positive and structured environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and positive behavior.
  • Follow school policies and safety procedures, including student dismissal to authorized persons, allergy and medical emergency protocols, and incident reporting.
  • Report and document all accidents, injuries, or unusual behavior promptly; notify parents and administration as required.
  • Assist students with homework or academic tasks as needed.
  • Support program schedules, calendars, and supply needs in collaboration with the Extended Day Coordinator and school administrators.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, enrollment, and emergency contact information.
  • Assist with collecting and recording fees associated with the program and maintaining related documentation.
  • Contribute to maintaining clean, organized, and safe program areas; assist with light housekeeping and snack preparation.
  • Attend required meetings, professional development sessions, and safety training as assigned.
  • Communicate positively and professionally with students, staff, parents, and administrators
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Coordinator, Principal, or designee.
Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 12 months of verifiable experience (paid or volunteer) working with and supervising school-aged children in an organized setting.
  • Must pass Level II background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and reference checks prior to employment.
  • Must obtain valid First Aid and CPR certification within three (3) months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
  • Knowledge of child development, safety standards, and positive behavior management techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan engaging, age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective when managing student behavior and emergencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment in interactions with students and families.
  • Basic proficiency with technology for communication, record-keeping, and supervision.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily indoors in classrooms, cafeterias, or designated program spaces, with some outdoor supervision required. Must be able to actively supervise and engage with children (up to 30 students). Light physical activity required, including standing for extended periods, walking, bending, lifting up to 20 pounds, and participating in recreational activities. Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Principal, Principal Designee or Extended Day Coordinator. Works collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other Extended Day team members.
Terms of Employment

Hourly, 10-month position aligned with the school calendar. Compensation and benefits consistent with the school’s approved compensation plan. Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with school policies and Florida accountability standards.
