Job description

We are looking for an energetic, compassionate, and reliable After School Teacher to guide and inspire our school-age children after their regular school day. In this role, you will lead after-school enrichment activities, assist students with homework, facilitate cooperative play, and maintain a safe, encouraging environment aligned with our early childhood and elementary development standards.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Support & Homework Assistance

  • Provide structured homework help, supporting students in reading, math, writing, and school assignments.
  • Encourage independent problem-solving skills and academic confidence in every child.

Enrichment & Hands-On Learning

  • Plan and facilitate hands-on learning activities, including arts and crafts, STEM explorations, storytelling, and physical outdoor/indoor games.
  • Promote social-emotional development through cooperative group activities and positive behavioral guidance.

Child Safety & Classroom Management

  • Ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of all students at all times.
  • Maintain clear classroom routines, positive reinforcement, and active supervision during indoor and outdoor play.
  • Monitor student sign-in/sign-out procedures and coordinate daily student arrivals from local school drop-offs.

Family & Team Communication

  • Maintain open, warm, and professional communication with parents during pickup hours.
  • Collaborate with staff members and the Center Director to maintain a welcoming, well-organized learning environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field (preferred, not required).
  • Experience: Verifiable experience working with Early Childhood or preschool-aged children in an after-school, daycare, or classroom setting.
  • Clearance: Must pass NYC Department of Health / DOI background check, fingerprinting, and state clearance requirements.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for early childhood and elementary development.
