Description
The Before and After School Counselor job is a part-time position in the Recreation Department Youth Division. Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator, the Before and After School Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, positive and engaging environment for children. They also help lead activities that promote social, emotional and physical growth, maintaining a supportive atmosphere for all.
We are seeking candidates who are available to work or have partial availability for the following schedules:
  • Monday-Friday: 6:45 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
  • Monday-Friday: 10:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Job Duties
  • Alertly and actively supervises the children and provides them with undivided attention; ensures the safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Lead and participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, group games, sports and homework help.
  • Builds positive relationships with participants, parents and staff.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and supervisors regarding participant needs or concerns.
  • Serve as a positive role model and promote respect, responsibility and good sportsmanship.
  • Assists with daily program setup and cleanup; maintain a clean and organized program space.
  • Monitors student attendance and behavior - complete required forms and reports as needed.
  • Supports special events, school days off, and break camps as needed.
  • Participates in in-service trainings, staff meetings, or other educational activities as required or assigned.
  • Maintains awareness of and follows program policies, guidelines, and safety procedures including, but not limited to, check in and check out procedures, fire, tornado, lock down, etc.
  • Leads by example and adheres to all Village & Department policies and procedures, and Village codes and ordinances.
  • Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Youth Department.

Requirements
Physical:
  • Requires frequent public interaction and the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to listen to and understand operating procedures and written directives.
  • Work is performed in an indoor recreation environment which requires long periods of attentiveness, standing, sitting, pulling, pushing, reaching, carrying, cleaning, visual monitoring, verbal and written communication, hearing, and moderate lifting (15-50 lbs.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 1: Before and After School Counselor: $10.00/hr-$13.00/hr
  • 16+ years of age
  • Experience working with youth (preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (within 3 months of hire)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 2: Trailblazer (4K) Counselor: $14.00/hr-$18.00/hr
In addition to Level 1
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Complete planned activities each month for 4K program
  • School Age Assistant Certification or similar State of Wisconsin Child Care Certification
