Job description

ABOUT THE YMCA:
Established locally in 1944, the YMCA of Southern Nevada is one of the region's longest-serving and most-respected nonprofit organizations. We are committed to helping people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and income levels - ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity and that no one is turned away due to the inability to pay. From childcare to senior programs; sports to education; fitness centers to chronic disease management; and swim lessons to feeding the hungry, the Y is truly for all in its cause of holistically strengthening the foundations of this community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for Teaching Assistants to join our team. In this position you will assist with implementing the day-to-day programming of the 21st Century Learning Center at partner elementary schools. This includes assisting with delivering the BellXcel program curriculum, as well as providing homework help, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. The program typically runs from 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Some locations may operate on Fridays.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Research shows that young people from underserved and low-income families often start school underprepared and fall behind their peers as a result, creating an opportunity gap. Through focused programming and support, the Y is committed to closing this gap. The Power Scholars program uses evidence based curriculum and licensed teachers to support students' educational readiness, engagement and outcomes, and emotional and physical development while also providing afterschool childcare at no cost to students or families.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the delivery of relevant and engaging lessons in groups of 12 to 24 students
  • Works closely with supervisors and teachers to develop and implement strategies for student success
  • Prepares and organizes program supplies and tracks student attendance
  • Implements classroom and behavior management strategies to consistently develop a safe and productive learning environment
  • Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada's Youth Development policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

END RESULT:
  • Provide safe, secure and educational programs at the afterschool site.
  • Impact the overall effectiveness of the association's implementation of the YMCA mission through youth development.
  • Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, abilities and identities.

OUR CULTURE:
