Job description

The Material Coordinator (HAZMAT High) is responsible for freight movements. Assists, and advises the Supervisor in planning and coordinating all activities in support of the customers during outload operations. Provides oversight to subordinates in the absence of the Supervisor. Provides technical guidance of all freight movement, including truckload, less than truckload and small packages being shipped out of Ft. Bragg and offsite locations in support of military exercises, deployments and other missions. Prepare correspondence and reports for appropriate agencies when required.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process truckload, less than truckload, air clearances and small package shipments utilizing CMOS, ETA, TGIS and TGET.
  • Verifies TAC codes by comparing the FVUA document as required.
  • Contacts Commercial carriers either by telephone (most used) or email to begin their selection process for low cost service providers (TSPs).
  • Track and/or trace inbound and outbound freight.
  • Communicates specifics of the mission, i.e. date, time, location, type of equipment required, etc.
  • Receives list of drivers as a confirmation from the TSP and processes the CBL for movement.
  • Visually confirms the load is assigned to the proper TSP during loading.
  • Obtains signatures from the Commercial drivers after loading cargo.
  • Creates a packet of information on the movement for use as the documentation for timely payment to the TSPs.
  • Obtain air and water clearances as required for freight shipments.
  • Prepare bills of lading.
  • Use and manage government and/or commercial security seals.
  • Process air clearance of cargo through CMOS or FACTS.
  • Process shipments of hazardous and ammunition cargo.
  • Validates customer's hazardous certification documents.
  • Must be able to obtain AMMO62 certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training Requirements:
  • 2 to 5 years of Transportation experience.
  • Familiarity with Defense Transportation Regulation covering Cargo movement.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction or supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under short deadlines.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer, multiline telephone, Multi-Function Device (MFD).
  • Office and outside work as required by mission. Nights, Weekend, Overtime and travel dependent on mission requirements.
  • Duties may require walking, lifting, standing for long periods and being exposed to hot, cold and wet conditions.
  • Experience with forklifts, pallet jacks and other handling equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team-base, high collaborative environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
