Description

Latin School of Chicago is looking for an Upper School Physics Teacher (maternity leave) for about 12 weeks beginning early September through mid November 2026. Latin School of Chicago provides its students with a rigorous and innovative educational program in a community that embraces diversity of people, cultures and ideas. Latin inspires its students to pursue their passions and lead lives of purpose and excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who has a passion for exploring teaching and supporting students in an outstanding academic environment. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach four classes within the the Upper School Science department that may include 9th grade Physics and AP Physics C Mechanics
  • Collaborate with a team of teachers on curriculum and assessment. Be an active member of the Science department
  • Work with students outside of class for extra help or enrichment
  • Reflect on teaching practice, often trying new approaches to create an equitable and engaging experience for all students in science
  • Effectively communicate departmental philosophy and student performance with parents in writing grade reports and conducting parent-teacher conferences
  • Cultivate an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Physics, or related field is preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 3 years' experience teaching high school science, ideally with experience teaching 9th grade Physics and AP Physics C Mechanics
  • Effective oral and written communicator with students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Familiar with a standards-based approach to learning and assessment and/or open to learning how to facilitate standards-based cycles of feedback in their classroom
  • Familiarity with the physics modeling curriculum is a plus
  • Place a high value on diversity and foster an appreciation for differences in our community.
  • Well versed in utilizing educational technology, contributing to interdisciplinary projects, and experience with project- based learning is desired.
  • Understands the needs of children and supports the social/emotional growth of all students.
