Job description

Are you a current or retired high school math teacher, or a strong undergraduate/graduate student passionate about math?
Want to help students succeed in a fun, low-pressure environment while earning great part-time pay?
Join Sylvan Learning Center of Lake Mary!
We have a growing number of high school students coming in for homework help, SAT Prep, and advanced math support from Algebra all the way up to Calculus.
Why You’ll Love Teaching at Sylvan:
  • Teach during school hours (mornings and early afternoons) — perfect if you’re available while school is in session
  • Work with small groups or one-on-one — no lesson planning and no grading!
  • Flexible schedule that works around your life
  • Supportive, positive team environment where students are motivated and excited to learn
  • Competitive pay: $17.00 – $22.00 per hour
  • Employee discount + referral program
About the Role
As a Sylvan Math Teacher, you’ll use our proven programs to deliver engaging, personalized math instruction. You’ll help high school students build confidence, master challenging concepts, and achieve their academic goals — all in a fun and rewarding setting.
Key Requirement:
  • Availability to commute to Lake Mary after school hours for a flexible schedule weekday afternoons and/or Saturdays.
What You’ll Do:
  • Prepare for and lead energetic, personalized math sessions
  • Greet and connect with each student to keep them engaged and motivated
  • Teach Algebra through Calculus using Sylvan’s structured programs
  • Celebrate progress with praise, encouragement, and Sylvan tokens
  • Track student growth and communicate successes with center staff
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inspiring learning environment
What We’re Looking For:
  • Current or retired high school math teacher, or strong undergraduate/graduate student majoring in math-related field
  • Ability to teach mathematics at all high school levels
  • Passion for motivating and inspiring students in grades 6–12
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and customer-focused attitude
  • Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Education, or related field is a big plus
  • Teaching certification is a plus
If you love math and enjoy helping students finally “get it” — especially during the school day — this is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills in a fun, flexible role.
Ready to join our growing team?
Apply today! We’d love to hear about your experience teaching or tutoring math to students in grades 6–12.
