What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aesop Substitute?

To thrive as an Aesop Substitute, you need classroom management abilities, a general understanding of educational practices, and at least a high school diploma or associate's degree—some districts require a substitute teaching permit or certification. Familiarity with the Aesop (now called Absence Management) system is important, as it is widely used to manage substitute assignments and schedules. Strong communication, flexibility, and reliability help substitutes quickly adapt to different classrooms and effectively engage with students and staff. These competencies ensure smooth lesson delivery, maintain a productive learning environment, and support school operations during teacher absences.

What are the typical work hours and scheduling flexibility for an Aesop Substitute?

Aesop Substitute positions usually offer a high level of scheduling flexibility, allowing you to accept assignments based on your availability and preferences through the Absence Management system. While most substitute work occurs during regular school hours and days, you can choose to accept half-day, full-day, or even multi-day assignments, depending on the district's needs. This flexibility makes the role ideal for those seeking part-time work or variable hours. Keep in mind that accepting more assignments and being open to different grade levels can increase your opportunities and visibility within the school system.
