Job Description

CNC Machinist will set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC lathe and mill machines to produce complex, tight‑tolerance components for high-specification industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, power generation, and life sciences. This role focuses on precision machining, consistent quality, and reliable production in a demanding, performance-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC lathes and mills, including tooling, fixturing, and workholding, to meet job specifications and production requirements.
• Operate CNC lathe and mill equipment to produce complex components with tight tolerances for high-specification applications.
• Perform tool offsets and machine adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish throughout production runs.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and ensure they meet quality standards.
• Troubleshoot machining issues, including tool wear, dimensional deviations, and machine alarms, and take corrective action to resolve problems.
• Handle CNC turning operations and work with multi-axis equipment, including 4-axis and 5-axis machines, as needed.

Essential Skills

• 3 years of blueprint reading experience with the ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications.
• 4 years of hands-on CNC lathe experience in a production or job shop environment.
• 3 years of experience performing tool offsets and machine adjustments to maintain tight tolerances.
• Proficiency in operating CNC lathes and mills, including setup and basic troubleshooting.
• Ability to work with tight tolerances and high-quality requirements for aerospace, defense, medical, power generation, and life sciences components.
• Competence with multi-axis machining concepts, including 4-axis and 5-axis equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience editing CNC programs to refine processes and improve part quality is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience with 5-axis CNC machining is a plus.
• Familiarity with CNC turning operations in a high-precision environment.
• Comfort working with various measuring tools and inspection methods beyond basic calipers and micrometers.
• Willingness to work overtime on Fridays when needed to meet production demands.

This is a Permanent position based out of Champaign, IL.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $74880.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in Champaign,IL.
