Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PTInstructor, Paralegal Studies for the Paralegal Studies Program atChabot College in Hayward.

The Paralegal Studies Program seeks a knowledgeable andstudent‑centered instructor to teach a course introducing the useof technology in the legal profession. The ideal candidate willhave practical experience with legal software, including currentversions of Westlaw, Microsoft® Word, Excel®, and PowerPoint®, aswell as specialized legal applications used for case management,document preparation, timekeeping, billing, and electronicdiscovery. They will also have strong familiarity with standardoffice applications, and a clear understanding of the ethicalconsiderations surrounding technology in legal practice. This rolesupports the program's mission of preparing students for modern,technology‑driven legal environments.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach Legal Technology — Deliver engaging instruction on legaloffice hardware, software, and specialized applications;
  2. Develop Course Materials — Create lectures, assignments,assessments, and hands-on exercises aligned with programoutcomes;
  3. Provide Practical Training — Guide students through real-worldtasks using Microsoft Office and legal-specific softwaretools;
  4. Teach Ethical Use of Technology: Integrate discussions andactivities related to confidentiality, data protection, andprofessional responsibility;
  5. Support Student Success: Offer academic support, maintainregular office hours, and provide constructive feedback;
  6. Collaborate with Program Faculty: Participate in departmentmeetings, curriculum development, and program assessment;
  7. Maintain Current Knowledge: Stay informed about emerging legaltechnologies and industry standards.
Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for disciplines on this list arespecifically named bachelor's degree(s) or higher and two years ofprofessional experience, and/or other specifications as noted, orspecifically named associate degree(s) and six years ofprofessional experience.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity,sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of communitycollege students, as these factors relate to the need forequity-minded practices within the classroom.

Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must providedetails that explain at time of application how their academicpreparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Law, or arelated field; J.D. preferred;
  2. Professional experience as a paralegal, legal assistant,attorney, or legal technology specialist;
  3. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft® Word, Excel®, andPowerPoint®;
  4. Familiarity with legal software such as casemanagement systems,ediscovery tools, or documentautomation platforms;
  5. Ability to teach ethical and professional standards related totechnology in legal practice;
  6. Commitment to community college students and diverse learningenvironments;
  7. Teaching experience at the community college level;
  8. Experience training others in legal software or officetechnology;
  9. Knowledge of current trends in legal technology, cybersecurity,and digital practice management.
