Job description

Position Objective  

This position requires an entrepreneurial approach to supporting MacAllister Machinery’s efforts to buy and sell used parts.  A key function of this position will be to play a key role in supporting MacAllister’s aggressive used equipment growth strategies, and its used parts growth initiatives.  This job entails but is not limited to the following key tasks: 

  • Support all company divisions; sales, service, shop, field service, counter, and product support reps in their efforts to sell used parts 
  • Work with assigned CAT dealers and Parts Brokers, building relationships and networks to buy and sell used parts 
  • Assist the used equipment team in the valuation and disposal of used parts 
  • Aggressively buy and sell parts from the CFSC and CUESI inventory lists 

Essential Position Duties  

  • Support Heavy Equipment Sales Representatives, Counter Parts representatives,  and Product Support sales representatives in their efforts to sell used parts.  This includes passing credible leads with ample information, as well as researching and representing any item in our used parts inventory.  
  • Coordinate and/or assist in the buying, trading, brokering and sale of all used parts inventory, advising multiple divisions and departments on market and trade-in values. 
  • Cover and serve any used parts walk in business 
  • Work as a contact for MacAllister heavy equipment shops to find used parts for customer owned machine repairs, and MacAllister owned machine repairs 
  • Support MacAllister’s rebuild efforts by helping to source used parts to support the programs. 
  • Help with marketing and advertising efforts by helping to maintain timely and accurate used parts advertising information in the various on-line used parts data base systems. 

Position Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing OR related field or the equivalent in direct industry experience.  
  • High ethical standards and conduct. 
  • Minimum of 2 years sales experience. 
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to discuss technical aspects of both components and attachments and their capabilities with customers is preferred.   
  • Dedicated self-starter with the ability to work independently without the need for daily direct supervision and a strong sense of urgency.  
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills and listening skills. 
  • A team player possessing the ability to professionally work with customers, vendors, peers and co-workers as well as the ability to develop strong, long term relationships. 
  • Strong customer service skills and a thorough understanding of Price, Quality and Turnaround principles. 
  • Ability to manage multiple situations and priorities simultaneously, guiding each situation from beginning to end to the desired positive outcome. 

Difficulty of Work and Responsibility 

  • Position works independently with periodic status reviews conducted by the supervisor.  Detailed data analysis and systems knowledge are a normal part of daily routine.  An error in judgment or procedure could impact revenues, expenses, operating profits, safety, legal compliance, customer relations, regulatory compliance, company reputation and community relations.  The supervisor would probably detect these errors through status reviews; however, the possibility does exist that they might go undetected.

Technical Competencies 

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to discuss multiple machines, components and capabilities with customers. 
  • Above average computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office software, Caterpillar software packages such as Sales Link & I-Quote, Main Frame Programs (DBSi) and database programs.
