The Diesel Services Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a fleet of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty tow trucks, including rotators and large recovery units. This role requires advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical expertise to support complex recovery equipment used in accident response, load shifts, and heavy recoveries. The mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring maximum fleet uptime, safety compliance, and readiness for high-risk recovery operations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Diagnose and repair heavy-duty wreckers, rotators, and recovery trucks.
  • Service diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, air brake systems, and suspension components.
  • Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles meet federal and state safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures under high-use conditions.
  • Once repair is completed, drive and test vehicle for quality assurance of the repair. 
  • Ensure proper time keeping records (clock in/out/breaks)
  • Maintain a professional and respectful work environment by refraining from negative or disruptive comments regarding the company, management, or colleagues.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures for Dispatch Center and Quantum Towing and Recovery LLC. 
Fabrication & Structural Repair

  • Perform welding and fabrication on truck bodies, mounts, and recovery equipment.
  • Repair or reinforce frames, booms, and structural components.
  • Modify equipment to improve performance or meet operational needs.

Preventative Maintenance & Inspections

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on high-value equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Inspect critical recovery components (cables, chains, rigging points, hydraulic lines).
  • Maintain detailed service and inspection records.
  • Identify wear and fatigue issues before failure occurs.
Emergency & Field Support

  • Respond to field breakdowns or assist with on-site repairs during major recovery operations.
  • Support operators with equipment troubleshooting during active jobs when necessary.
  • Prioritize repairs based on dispatch and operational urgency.

Work Environment

  • Shop and outdoor work, including roadside or accident scene support.
  • Exposure to extreme weather, heavy equipment, and hazardous conditions.
  • Physically demanding work (lifting, climbing, working under vehicles).
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment supporting emergency recovery operations.
