Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Advanced Rigger is responsible for preparation, installation and operation of rigging gear and equipment such as slings, chokers chains, hoists and come alongs; prepares components for lifting by cranes, forklift or similar operated lifting equipment. This position requires travel.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignment.
  • Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions with respect to proper installation and operation of rigging gear and equipment including ground conditions, load attachment points, overhead and perimeter clearances and โ€œline of fireโ€ clearances and plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
  • Inspects rigging gear and equipment for suitability for use prior to performing any lifting, lowering or pulling operations.
  • Interprets lift plans and prepares components for lift including installation and inspection of lifting devices and rigging gear.
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • 3+ years construction experience
    • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
    • Understands load capacity charts and specifications and can interpret lifting criteria for lifting and hoisting equipment
    • Ability to determine lift weights from drawings and specifications and perform calculations to determine lift weights and center of gravity on simple components
    • Knowledge of crane hand signals and ability to communicate same
    • Ability to measure and assess plumbness, levelness, alignment prior to performing lifting, hoisting or pulling operations
    • Minimum score of 70% on Riggers Skills Test or minimum score of 60% on NCCER certification
    • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
    • Knowledge of safety monitoring equipment and its use; successful completion of Companyโ€™s Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
    • Obtain and maintain active status in DISA drug testing program.

            QUALIFICATIONS

            PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

            • Must be able to travel. Travel Required
            • Must be willing to work frequent overtime.
            • Must be able and willing to work at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolding, aerial work platforms, etc.
            • Work may include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools.
            • Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
            • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
            • Work may include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers.
            • Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8 hours per day.
