Job description

Mangrove Lithium, a Vancouver based company, has developed a breakthrough platform for the most cost-effective production of battery grade lithium hydroxide and carbonate from diverse input streams and assets. Mangrove's modular solution can be scaled to any capacity and co-located with upstream lithium producers, battery recyclers, or battery manufacturers. The company has attracted funding from Canada Growth Fund, Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BDC Capital and BMW I Ventures. The Company has a highly experienced leadership team with a track record of successfully commercializing and deploying industrial technologies and is working towards the deployment of a first-of-a-kind commercial plant.


Position

Mangrove is seeking a Senior Mineral Processing Engineer to join our Technology Development Department. This role is ideal for a highly experienced engineer with deep expertise in lithium and mineral processing who thrives in hands-on, pilot-scale environments. You will play a key role in designing, scaling, optimizing, and operating advanced chemical processing systems, with a focus on lithium extraction technologies. This is a high-impact position with significant growth potential in the rapidly expanding battery materials sector.

Salary range for this position will be $100 - $140k depending on experience and skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation, optimization, and continuous improvement of spodumene processing circuits, including leaching, solid-liquid separation, and impurity removal, with accountability for plant performance, lithium recovery, throughput, and product quality.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for pilot plant activities, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and debottlenecking, while implementing system upgrades and optimizing operating parameters to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Support the design, upgrade, commissioning, and operation of spodumene processing pilot plants, translating lab-scale results into robust, scalable processes.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of metallurgical test programs, pilot campaigns, and feasibility studies to validate process design and improve performance.
  • Develop and review process deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and equipment sizing/specifications.
  • Apply process simulation and modeling tools to optimize system performance and diagnose operational challenges.
  • Analyze process data using statistical and data-driven methods to improve recovery, throughput, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators and implement reporting systems to track plant and pilot performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and promote a strong safety culture in all pilot plant and processing activities.
  • Contribute to scale-up strategy and technology transfer from pilot to commercial operations.
  • Stay current with industry advancements and contribute to continuous innovation in lithium processing technologies.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related discipline (advanced degree is an asset).
  • 10+ years of industrial experience in mineral and/or chemical processing.
  • Strong expertise in lithium extraction processes, including spodumene processing, brine pretreatment, leaching, and separation technologies.
  • Proven experience in process design, hydrometallurgy, flotation, and separation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with pilot plants, R&D programs, and process scale-up.
  • Proficiency with process simulation and modeling tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-driven with a practical, hands-on approach to engineering challenges.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Eng. designation (or eligibility).
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainable lithium extraction technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, startup or scale-up environments.
