SUMMARY
The Accuracy Control Engineer is responsible for ensuring assembly accuracy, optimizing processes, and initiating design improvements. This role includes conducting metrology surveys, supervising a team of analysts, and acting as a liaison between engineering, quality assurance, production staff, and regulatory bodies. The role significantly contributes to process improvement and dimensional compliance within the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
  • Support steel, machinery, mechanical outfitting, facilities and other potential trades using the required metrology instruments. This scope of work will involve critical alignment of various complex ships systems with extremely tight tolerances, along with a wide range of detailed measurements utilizing advanced spatial software. Engineers will be responsible for researching detailed blueprints to create strategies, procedures and reports for all jobs assigned to them.
  • Analyze collected metrology data to ensure accuracy of constructed assemblies and identify process improvements, including preparation of reports to communicate findings to stakeholders. This will occasionally require detailed presentations for a wide range of customers.
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of and conducting detailed field surveys and using advanced metrology instruments.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality assurance teams to maintain dimensional compliance, design changes, and process optimization strategies.
  • Organize and document special studies to evaluate and improve the accuracy of processes, including writing and updating process control procedures.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Preferred experience in Accuracy Control, Engineering, or Metrology processes.
  • Experience operating advanced metrology equipment (e.g., laser tracker, total station) preferred utilizing associated software for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office applications, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
  • Technical writing and statistical analysis experience preferred
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding terminology and design processes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires specific visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position requires employee to remain in a stationary sitting or upright position for continuous periods of time. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Position requires employees to carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 50 lbs. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 50% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering. Position requires expressing ideas by the spoken word and/or the perception of speech. Position requires operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer and ability to grasp and/or pick up objects.
ACCOUNTABILITY
This position is accountable for making decisions that directly impact the dimensional compliance and alignment of assembly units. The incumbent is responsible for fully utilizing Accuracy Control procedures to drive process improvement and ensure tasks are completed within established schedules while maintaining the highest quality standards. Work is performed independently within defined objectives, using existing practices to determine specific work methods. Management is available for consultation and clarification as needed. The role primarily affects the individual's VP Organization, with significant interaction and collaboration across selected areas of the Company. Additional responsibilities include determining appropriate work methods, planning operational tasks, evaluating the performance of assigned personnel, and recommending or approving employee training and development initiatives.
PAY SCALE
$81,300 - $105,200.
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
