Job description

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Instructor in the Division of Gastroenterology, and Nutrition provides comprehensive patient care services in both ambulatory and inpatient settings. The APP works collaboratively with gastroenterology faculty, fellows, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and liver disorders. The position supports the clinical, educational, research, and service missions of USF Health and Tampa General Hospital while contributing to high-quality, patient-centered care.

This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64. Must be board certified/eligible in: Certified Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC) or Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant program.
Current Florida licensure as an APRN or PA (or eligibility for Florida licensure).
Eligibility for credentialing and privileging through affiliated clinical entities.
Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Experience in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or a related specialty preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.
Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.
SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
(c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree;
(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Clinical :

Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and liver diseases.
Conduct outpatient clinic visits, inpatient consultations, follow-up visits, and transitional care management.
Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
Coordinate care with gastroenterology faculty, primary care providers, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists.
Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment plans, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Document patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic health record.
Participate in call coverage, inpatient service coverage, and other clinical duties as assigned.

Teaching:

Participate in the education of medical students, residents, fellows, APP students, and other healthcare learners.
Provide bedside and clinic-based instruction related to gastrointestinal diseases and patient management.
Present educational conferences, case discussions, journal clubs, and didactic sessions as assigned.
Serve as a role model for evidence-based clinical practice and professional conduct.

Research:

Support clinical research and quality improvement projects within the Division of Gastroenterology.
Assist with patient identification, screening, enrollment, and follow-up for clinical studies when appropriate.
Participate in data collection, analysis, manuscript preparation, presentations, and other scholarly activities.
Maintain compliance with institutional review board (IRB) and research-related requirements.

Administrative:

Participate in divisional, departmental, and institutional committees as assigned.
Assist with development and implementation of clinical protocols, workflows, and best practices.
Contribute to performance improvement, patient safety, and operational initiatives.
Complete required institutional education, credentialing, and compliance activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department.
