Advanced practice nurses (APNs) include nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse anesthetists, and nurse midwives. They are trained to provide a wide range of healthcare services, including diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, and promoting health education. What are some common challenges advanced practice nurses face when transitioning from bedside nursing to an advanced practice role?

Advanced Practice Nurses often encounter challenges when moving from bedside nursing to roles such as Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Nurse Anesthetist. These challenges can include adjusting to increased autonomy in patient care decisions, managing a broader scope of practice, and staying current with complex clinical guidelines. Additionally, advanced practice roles may require enhanced skills in leadership, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and navigating regulatory or billing requirements. Support from mentors and ongoing professional development can help ease this transition and build confidence in advanced responsibilities.

What can advanced practice nurses do?

Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are registered nurses with advanced education and training, allowing them to perform tasks such as diagnosing illnesses, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing patient education.
