Job description

Respiratory Care Specialist

The posted compensation range of $43.10 - $64.11 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

As our Respiratory Care Specialist, you will provide essential direct patient care, assessing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory disorders. Your role is vital for improving patient outcomes. Every day you will assess respiratory status, implement treatment plans (oxygen, ventilation, airway management), and educate patients/families. You'll document interventions and collaborate with physicians and medical staff. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and equipment proficiency. Excellent communication for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration, plus a commitment to safety and continuous development, are essential.

  • Therapy Skills: Performs advanced respiratory care as demonstrated by performance of standard therapy skills, intensive care skills, and emergency resuscitation skills with less than 3 to 5 errors per year.
  • Resource: Functions as a resource to the physician, nurses and respiratory care staff as demonstrated by 4-8 inservices per year.
  • Educates: Teaches and educates 100% of appropriate respiratory care practitioners in specialty area of practice with less than 2 to 4 complaints per year.
  • QA/QC: Evaluates patient care provided by other respiratory care practitioners, conducts QA audits and reports correctly and on time with less than 3 to 5 omissions per year. Conducts QC monitoring and reporting for the blood gas laboratory.
  • Work Assignments: Submits assigned work projects and/or reports which are accurate and meet deadlines with no more than 2-4 failures to turn in quality work on time.
  • Studies: Initiates 1-2 equipment and/or clinical studies annually.

Required

  • Associates of Science in Respiratory therapy or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in a critical care setting.
  • Active Respiratory Care Specialist license in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Preferred

  • Bachelors of Science Respiratory Therapy or related field
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association
