Job description

Summary
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Teacher and Program Administrator/Principal in the Services for Exceptional Children Specialized Behavior Support Program classroom and possibly in home settings. The Behavior Interventionist and or/Teacher/Program Administrator supervising the RBT is responsible for the work performed by the RBT. The incumbent in this position will support the instruction of social/emotional/behavioral skills and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The RBT will collect data, assist with parent training, and directly implement behavior plans. Applicants for this position should meet the requirements for securing the paraprofessional position and be willing to complete the required 40-hour training to complete the requirements for obtaining the RBT certification. Positions will be paid on 210-day RBT/Para-Behavior Program Salary Schedule plus an annual supplement of $3,500.
Essential Duties
  • Implements specific behavior plans as assigned by the Teacher/Behavior Interventionist
  • Utilizes reports and data effectively to improve behavioral aspects of students; Collects data related to interventions and student responses to interventions
  • Assists the Teacher and Behavior Interventionist (BI) in the preparation of educational materials/data collection materials/etc.
  • Assists the Behavior Interventionist with functional behavioral assessments or skill acquisition plans
  • Prepares materials necessary and relevant for educational services
  • Assists with addressing social skills instruction
  • Works individually with students and/or in small groups to help reinforce learning objectives
  • Manages problem behaviors appropriately to ensure the safety of students and staff; Supports teachers, staff, and administrators in dealing with behavior issues
  • Assists teachers with academic instruction and classroom activities; Prepares and disseminates materials for classroom activities
  • Monitors groups of students engaged in academic or social skills work effectively; Observes and assists individual students that are experiencing difficulties
  • Assists with implementation of students' Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as assigned by the BI (in school and home settings)
  • Provides clerical support by performing such duties as light typing and data entry, routine sorting and filing, copying, and data collection and management
  • Maintains and submits appropriate records in a timely manner as determined by program administration
  • Completes physical management training provided by the District
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform remedial instruction or tasks to reinforce learning initiated by teacher
  • Attends in-service trainings, meetings, and conferences as requested
  • Maintains positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community
  • Participates in required additional training related to behavior analytic services when applicable
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Administrator (Program Administrator/Principal)
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Must pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum score of 250 within 1 year from Date of Hire
Certification/Licensure
Must be able to obtain Georgia PSC Paraprofessional Certificate within 1 year from Date of Hire;
Must complete the RBT certification requirements
Experience Qualifications
0-2 year experience required; 3-5 years of experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children preferred
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with students and adults
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility
  • Technology proficiency (computers, AV, office equipment, etc.)

  • Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance
