Director of Community, Learning & Growth

Zayo Group LLC

Denver, CO

Full-time

Job description

Company Description

Zayo provides mission-critical bandwidth to the world’s most impactful companies, fueling the innovations that are transforming our society. Zayo’s 141,000-mile network in North America and Europe includes extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. Zayo’s communications infrastructure solutions include dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access. Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.

Zayo is seeking a Director of Community, Learning, and Growth to serve as strategic operator and systems thinker to build and lead Zayo’s Community, Learning & Growth strategy. This is a unique, non-hierarchical leadership role focused on two enterprise-wide goals:

  • Strengthening our culture of community through intentional systems, shared experiences, and visible support

  • Creating a culture of learning and growth that unlocks development and momentum for all employees

Our Director of Community, Learning, and Growth role does not come with a team, but it does come with influence. It is a multi-year enterprise build and the right person will serve as the organizer, architect, and activator of a high-functioning ecosystem across culture, employee connection, development, and learning. You’ll be supported directly by the VP of Talent Management, with full executive sponsorship and clear priorities. Success in this role is not about owning all the work, it’s about bringing structure, alignment, and lift to what already exists, while inspiring people to row in the same direction.

*We're open to this position working in a hybrid capacity out of our Denver, CO office (1401 Wynkoop).

Key Responsibilities:

Talent & Community (50%)

This leader will shape and activate the systems, stories, and structures that strengthen Zayo’s culture, connect employees to one another, and build trust inside and outside the company.

  • Community Engagement – “Community North Star”: Align Zayo’s time, resources, and voice to the communities we most want to impact—through financial giving, volunteerism, and service. Establish clear focus areas and define how we measure and communicate impact company-wide.

  • ERG Framework & Activation: Define and operationalize how Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are formed, supported, and integrated into company culture. Enable ERGs to contribute meaningfully to business impact, leadership development, and employee connection.

  • Cultural Narratives & Activation: Curate and amplify the stories, shared rituals, and key cultural moments that make Zayo’s culture visible and resonant. Partner across teams to scale storytelling and align cultural moments with business priorities and leadership behaviors.

  • Internal Partnerships & Governance: Build trust-based partnerships across HR, communications, legal, and business teams to ensure alignment, compliance, and thoughtful governance of all culture, ERG, and employee engagement efforts.

Learning & Growth (50%)

This role serves as the enterprise leader for building a culture of learning and growth—activating the mindset, systems, and shared practices that enable development at scale. It requires deep influence, strong cross-functional leadership, and the ability to bring structure to a distributed ecosystem.

  • Learning Ecosystem Activation: Align learning and training leaders across the company into a unified, purpose-driven ecosystem. Help drive clarity on what employees need to learn—skills, behaviors, processes—and determine the best-fit modalities (e.g., in-person, virtual instructor-led, job aids, microlearning).

  • Program Design Standards & Enablement: Establish shared frameworks and success criteria for learning design and delivery. Elevate the quality, consistency, and impact of training by co-creating tools, templates, and guidance with decentralized learning teams.

  • Technology, Tools & Data Strategy: Shape the vision for learning systems and platforms, including zUNI and on-demand content. Define shared success metrics and promote data-informed decision-making across the learning ecosystem.

  • Growth Philosophy & Employee Experience: Define what growth means at Zayo. Build clear frameworks for career paths, internal mobility, and development that give employees visibility and momentum—and empower managers to support growth conversations.

Qualifications & Behavioral Expectations:

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 (ten) years of progressive experience in learning and development, organizational culture, talent management, or a related field

  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives without formal authority

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, program design, and delivery modalities

  • Experience developing or operationalizing frameworks for career development, ERG support, or enterprise learning strategy

  • Proficient in using data and analytics to inform decisions, track impact, and continuously improve learning and cultural initiatives

  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to translate complexity into clarity

  • Adept at navigating matrixed organizations and partnering across HR, business functions, and executive leadership

  • Comfort with enterprise systems, learning platforms, and data-informed decision making

  • Experience in high-growth, transformation-oriented, or culturally dynamic environments preferred

Behavioral Expectations
  • Positive Attitude — brings positive energy and a solution mindset, approaches ambiguity and change with optimism, curiosity, and resilience

  • Leads through influence, not hierarchy — earns trust by adding clarity, structure, and value across teams

  • Ecosystem builder — connects people, systems, and efforts to create something greater than the sum of its parts

  • Comfortable with ambiguity — can create structure and forward momentum in areas without pre-defined ownership

  • Practically visionary — sets a strong strategic direction and is equally energized by driving day-to-day execution

  • Inclusive of perspectives — seeks input from diverse groups, listens well, and balances alignment with autonomy

  • Service-oriented leader — deeply committed to helping others succeed and elevating the work of others

  • Persistent but diplomatic — understands when to push, when to pause, and how to create lasting alignment
